Better

Went into the Doc yesterday and she gave me some antibiotics. They are working.

Snow is pretty much all melted off. Been up in the 40’s. I took the tractor and leveled off some of the dirt where Chance and Hopes trailer will go. Kids today, so fussy! Want everything all level and neat! Sheesh!

😉

Dirty rotten miserable cold…

hanging in there. So far, Cindy hasn’t gotten it. Hope is just starting and the kids are in various stages. Chance and I are in the midst of it.

Just been doing chores and no more.. got a couple three inches of snow the other day and some wind. Warmed up enough today that it started to melt. Supposed to get warmer as the week goes on.

Tried to get someone around here to shoot me today and put me out of my misery but so far I guess I haven’t been enough of an ass, as no one would take me up on it. Surprising, isn’t it?

Brr…

We have wind and rain. Not a lot of rain, but a lot of wind. Coming out of the south east and causing the rain to freeze. Hearing reports of icy roads. I did chores and just putted around the house, nursing my cold. Cindy had a migraine this morning so stayed home from work…

Sat up and watched the Harding Country football team have a heck of a game at state last night. Never knew I could enjoy watching football so much. don’t really know any of the kids, but I know where they come from and they had a whale of a year. Tuff team. Undefeated this year.

Cold

No, not the weather (yet!) I have one. Went with Hope to the kid’s doctor and must have picked it up there….

Went over to Clint’s and we worked their fall calves today. Nothin’ like the smell of burnin’ hair! When I got home I was ready to collapse… after I did the chores. Took a hot bath and now eating chicken noodle soup. Not nearly as good as when I was a wee shaver….

Supposed to get cooler and chance of rain/snow… oh well, at least it’s wet.

Damn!

Hope and I had to run into the hills to get pipe for their trailer house project today and a doc appointment for Sam, so I took the opportunity to get my drivers license renewed. I knew all the stuff you were supposed to take along (damn you people who changed our mundane lives so drastically ) so that I could do this, as my birthday is coming up in January (please send all cards with money enclosed, preferably large denominations…and condolences, to me, at my address… 🙂 )

Got to the place, Hope and kids waited while I went in. Took my number, filled out all the paperwork and waited in line. My turn comes and the lady tells me my social security card I have carried all my life is not valid…. also, seeing as I was not born in this country, I had to have my naturalization papers, even tho’ I had what I was told was a valid proof I was in fact a citizen in good standing…

I go to the SS office and they tell me that they can not get me a replacement for my card until I show them my naturalization papers…. ahhh, bureaucracy how I curse thee!!!!

We did some other stuff and stopped at the courthouse in Sturgis to try and figure out where to look for my paperwork. Katy (lovely women whom I’ve known for years and is married to one of my best friends) took it upon herself to make a call.

Short story is, supposedly they have changed things since they sent me my latest papers and the lady told her how to fix it! So…. if all works as it is supposed to, I shall be able to get my license renewed.

A thought occurred to me, on this the day we all exercise out right to vote (if you didn’t you are a wuss, a weanie and a twerp of the highest order!) that it is now harder for a legal citizen of this country to renew their drivers license than it is for a man to run for the presidency!

Also, I can not possibly see how we can have any illegal aliens here if they stop a man who has lived here since he was a small child, never been incarcerated, never hardly had even a traffic ticket ( there was that one small indiscretion late at night while driving home from a dismal calf sale with my mother as a passenger, many, many years ago) or done anything even slightly unlawful and having to go thru’ all this crap just to get to legally drive!

I may just survive….

Had a doc appointment with a dermatologist today to look at a couple patches on my cheek ( no, the one with the mustache next to it….)

He said they were just age spots but he burnt them off. Had on on my back Cindy was worried about and he said it was nothing to worry about. so… I guess I won’t die from Cancer…. for awhile anyway.

Nice day with a little breeze. Hope and I have to go get pipe and stuff for their trailer house project, tomorrow. We will be taking two urchins with us… ought to be fun! 🙂

Heritage Center

Cindy rode up with me yesterday afternoon. we stopped and ate a bite in case they weren’t feeding us at the gig, which of course they were…. no matter, we at a little there to be polite and it was good.

Did the show, I was the MC and sang a short part of one of my songs..

Afterwords we spent the night at a motel they provided a room for us at. Fr Tyler came over and visited a bit, but not long as we were tired. Had a hard time sleeping on that hard motel mattress. We were up a little before 5. I dropped Cindy off at her job and then drove back to Spearfish to the Perkins, got the Sunday paper, had a leisurely breakfast and read all the paper, then went to Mass and listened to Fr Tyler’s homily.

You know, watching someone do their chosen work, and doing it well, is very satisfying. Fr Tyler is very comfortable and does a great job of communicating and keeping the talk interesting. All his life he has been pointed at this and he revels in the task. As do both of my other son’s and their work. And it doesn’t matter that they are my son’s, I have many whom I work with and around and it is always fun to watch them, whether it be sorting cattle, branding, working with a young horse, building a house or a cupboard, singing a song or reciting a poem. I can not imagine having to do work that you hate, just to earn the money so you can live as you choose. Must be a hard, mean life….

Weather was great yesterday and cooler and windy today. supposed to be in the 60’s this week and a shot of moisture coming in this next weekend. Probably snow, but then it is November and we need it so we will take it. As if we had a choice….

Remember to vote on Tuesday!

Another day…

Not real sure what all I have accomplished in the past couple days, but seems like I’ve stayed busy!

I rode with Chance and Hope and two littlest kids to Philip. We got squared away at the bank for another year and they looked at a different pickup, but they want way too much for theirs and offered way too little for Hope and Chances. the guy at the shop called today and told me they had out a new lift pump in and that I had ran us out of fuel so evidently the gauge wasn’t working and if I wanted to fix that it was an additional $ 275! I told him to go ahead and fix it as I really like knowing how much fuel I have in a tank. I am kind of anal that way! 🙂

This afternoon we got the bunkbed put together and this morning I went and took wire off an old hay corral we no longer use so Chance and Hope can use it for sheep fence.

I caught and harnessed up the team and fed the dry cows in the corral a small part of a bale. Rick S and Brad stopped in to ask questions about a wall tent Brad had gotten the other day.

Kids took off and took Gus to Punkin Center for his first basketball game. (they lost) Cindy got home in time to watch.

Hope made supper and the kids were put to bed. Now The big kids are off to a Halloween party at Enning and Gramma is eying the clock as it creep towards bed time.I am kind of thinking that is a good idea myself.

We need to get the cows hauled to the sale tomorrow and get my pickup and then I have a gig tomorrow evening at the Heritage Center. They are having their annual fundraiser. I am MC’ing. A late night, I am sure.

Trick or Treat

We got both…

We pregged today. the treat was it was a real nice day and we had a great conception rate on the cattle. Out of 21 head of heifers we AI’d this summer, only one was open and we expected her to be as she was so small. Looks like there were only two or maybe three who were bull bred, the rest should be bred to the AI sire.

I pushed them into the chute, Hope pushed them into the squeeze chute and kept a tally on who’s cows and how many, while Chance caught them and Bret pregged them. ( Grett seemed to really enjoy the new palp cage I made for him to use!)

The trick part was when we were coming home yesterday evening my pickup started chugging and then quit as we got to Enning. Hope had to come get us. Today a man who works at the local Cenex went over to see if it was just the fuel filter (cheap fix) and said there was no fuel at the filter, so it is probably the lift pump ( quite a bit more expensive) or the injector pump ( a whole lot more expensive!). They are coming after it from the dealer 90 miles away tomorrow ( not cheap!)

Then today when we hooked the trailer on to Chance’s pickup, and loaded the dry cows for the sale, he only got about 2 miles from home when he had trouble. The hose on the turbo came off. Not a real expensive fix, but we had to jury rig it to get them and it back home, unload the cows and then Hope and Cindy brought a new piece out from town to fix it. Chance fixed it this evening and they and another young neighbor couple took their pickup and all the kids (6 in total) off trick or treating. So far Gramma and I have not had any little spooks or goblins show up demanding candy…

And so it goes, as Linda Ellerby used tosay….
