Hi

Been a few days….

Just been puttin’ around. Cindy went to the Doc yesterday. has the flu or something. Yesterday she was a zombie, today she is half a zombie….

Kids been working on their house. got the heat hooked up today. Hopefully get it all skirted this weekend.

Looked at and for tractors on the internet today. Man, they ain’t cheap! Talked to quite a few different dealers. Not sure what to do… wish we had gotten one several years back. Seems like they have about doubled in price! New and used…

Hasn’t gotten real warm or real cold. hope it stays nice… hey, I can wish can’t I? 🙂

Frosty

Some say that 90 days after a fog you will get moisture. Looks like we will get some the first part of March then!

Hope and I went to town yesterday to do some odds and ends. Coming back to Sturgis from Rapid, it looked like there was a huge fire. When we drove into the fog at the Black Hills Cemetery, it was like driving into a wall of solid white.

Snapped this pictures mid morning, this morning.

Christmas poem

Got a new keyboard today so I am back at my usual pace… 😉

Read this out loud for best effect…

JW

You’d never guess from looking
the name they hung on him at his birth
I guess it wasn’t what you’d maybe expect
it was Johnathan William Hinklesworth

Now, that’s a purty long name
for just a tiny little feller
maybe he got it when Doc whacked his butt
cuz’ he let out a big man’s beller

Johnathan William was an elf
guess that sort’er maybe explains his size
but other than that and them pointy ears
he looked like one a the guys

He was like most little tykes
fightin’ with siblings and goin’ to school
runnin’ an’ wrasslin’ with his buddies and friends
actin’ rowdy and thinkin’ they’s cool

But the thing about ol’ JW
well… that’s what he called his self
was that he wanted adventure and action
more than your typical elf

He yearned to head down west
see… he lived way up north
he wanted to ride broncs and rope wild cattle
rodeo on the Fourth

There’d never been no elf cowboys
heck, they don’t run cattle way up there
horses was scarce as hen’s teeth
just snow and cold arctic air!

Like a kid raised in the city
he got by with books and TV shows
watching Roy and Gene and Lash LaRue
frustrated by cold and the snows

Made do with what he had
forged spurs from old rusty metal he found
built chaps out of a ratty ol’ walrus hide
Mama had left layin’ around

Asked Santa Claus for a Stetson
got it for Christmas, the very next year
order’d him a pony, but typical cowboy
his check just didn’t clear

You can’t keep horses at the Pole
there ain’t no hay or oats or grass
he got a Bruce Grant book on how to braid stuff
just to help the time pass

Braided a reindeer reata
70 foot long and it was a dandy
and after he practiced quite a spell
I tell you, he got plumb handy

But then he got into trouble
he was caught ropin’ ol’ Santa’s deer
snubbin’ ‘em up to an old sled runner
that had frozen up that year

Pleaded his case with St Nick
told him, cowboyin’ was all he wanted to do
so Santa thought it over for a spell
made JW stew

Then Santa made an announcement
said he was just callin’ a spade a spade
nothin’ to do but send him him down south
he could learn the cowboy trade

See, Santa knows lots a cowboys
they all owe Santa a great big debt
so he made a few calls and shipped the boy out
learn to cowboy, you bet!

That’s how it come to be
this little feller from way up at the North Pole
learned to rope and ride from the very best
too bad he learned to chew Skoal!

Now JW’s back up there again
ropin’ and trainin’ and swallerforkin’ ears
only difference ‘tween him and his southern friends?
he’s doin’ it with reindeers!

He’s finally found his niche
Buckaroo boss on the North Pole spread
mostly ropin’ and trainin’ them reindeer
to pull ol’ Santa’s sled

But now he’s got a new plan
called me last night, he’d been drinkin’ beer
put in an order for a custom made saddle
and it’s got’a fit a reindeer!

It’s got to be the right size
better be tuff, but light as air
bet he had a gleam in his beady little eyes
he’s gunn’a rope him a polor bear!

And we are back…

Cindy and I headed out for Pierre on Saturday morning and got there about 10:30, met up with my writers group and ate a bite, had a short meeting then headed over to the Bookstore to do some poetry and music. Then we all loaded up, went to the Capital building and performed there. It was a big deal with all kinds of Christmas tree’s and free pie, tho’ by the time we got there all that was left was Punkin pie so I passed. Afterwords we went to Carmen’s house out north east of Pierre for some supper, visiting and jamming. Several of us spent the night and of course the wind came up and we had a blizzard this morning just as they had predicted, so we all stayed there until about 2 this afternoon. Sounded like the roads were better to the south so we drove about an hour out of our way coming hoe and got here about 5:30. We’d had about 8 inches of snow on Friday evening so it blowed a little. Chance fed some old hay up the creek to the cows and depending on the weather tomorrow, I may have to give them a short feed for a spell if they can’t graze the short grass still up there. Sure glad to get the moisture, but it would be grand if it would melt down so the cattle can graze….

Cooler…

Had some wind too… like that is news in this country! 😉

Worked on a Christmas poem today.. sent it off to a buddy and hopefully we will have a cute sketch to go with it..when it’s ready, I shall post.

Where I put the foam filler on the new door on Purple, it kind of fell thru’ at the widest point, so I went out after it warmed up some and added more. Hopefully it stuck and didn’t fall thru’ this time.

Donny brought in a couple loads of gravel to the kids trailer and some topsoil to fill in a hole where Uncle Wayne’s house used to set.

Not sure what all else I did today, but I dang sure must have done something! 😉

First night of the NFR, got the TV set to record.. hope you all get to watch it too. On GAC again this year. they did a great job last year so looking forward to tonight’s first round of 10. “Course I will probably just go until after the bronc ridin’ and then off to bed… 🙂

By the way, Hope posted this on Facebook the other day while she had Gus and Addy Bear at the Doctor’s office….

“One never truly experiences the joys of motherhood until your 5 year old son screams “FIIIIIRRREEE” and you turn just in time to see a tampon launch across the lobby of the pediatrician office…….awesome….followed by “Mom!! Did you know you had these rockets in here!!!” Love you son…”

Now that’s funny, I don’t car who you are….. 😀

Short night, early morning…

I woke up about 1:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep so got up and watched the idiot box until 4. Cindy was up and getting ready to head in to work. I woke at at 5:30 and Cindy was on the phone. she had hit another deer and she was mad and frustrated. Was meeting another car and saw one run across between them and them wham, the next one hit her. She thought she had really messed the car up so I dressed and headed it. When I got there the plastic bumper was hanging down and I took my knife and cut it off under the fender. She had two lights on bright and one on dim so she followed me on into town and took the car and left it at the auto body shop where she was taking it to get it fixed from the last encounter awhile back. I went back after they opened and it didn’t look like there was much extra damage from what they were going to fix before, but he called this evening and it sounds like there was so they may total it out, what with the miles on it…I scurried around town getting paperwork and stuff for her on the car and paid my taxes then came home, stopping at Punkin Center to get some mineral and salt for the cows and some pellet for the stove. When I got home I unloaded the pellets, loaded some bean and went up west and put out bean and salt in a couple places also leaving some mineral tubs. Came home and unloaded the last few sacks of salt then worked on sealing the door on Purple.I snapped a few shots so if they turn out I will post them tomorrow, probably..

Donny was up hauling gravel so I talked to him about hauling a couple loads in for the kids drive way. He didn’t get to it today, so maybe tomorrow, tho’ there is a chance of rain and snow tonight and the next few days and supposed to get cooler. Probably got up to 60 today…
