Got 3 today and one was a cow we had and bred/.. the rest been bought cows…I have been checking for awhile.. kind of nice to see some calves fro my effort! Real warm weather… 70′ s I suppose.. supposed to cool off a little but nothing to drastic.. cloud and chance of rain., I’ll take it.. don’t have much other choice! Worked on leather most of the day, sure hate to be doing that this nice weather, I’d like to be out riding…
Spring weather
Warmer, in the 50’s and supposed to keep warming… Mass schedule switched to Sunday morning at 10 and we had a house full.. Got another calf yesterday out of a cow Tate bought… Chance ear marked it and said she is a real good mama! That’s okay, coyotes won’t be a problem then… wind is blowing ow and supposed to keep it up for a couple days s a lot of the mud will dry up…
I hope your all happy!
We have sunshine and warmer weather.. mud and springtime weather… oh, I am plumb happy about it, but after all the whining I have been hearing about how hard of a winter it’s been.. I just hope your all happy! 😉
Blizzard
But not much of one… Wind started blowing pretty hard Sunday evening and snow started a bit before 7 Monday morning.. didn’t get a lot, maybe 4 inches, but how can you tell when the wind blew like it did.. never got real bad, no calves… Chance and I sorted off 4 and put them in the barn just in case, but rally didn’t think they would calve and they didn’t.. pretty nice out there now, tho’ it go in the single digits last night.. I rode Woody to sort.. I’d about forgot how much fun he is to turn loose on a cow… supposed to take some young horses and meet Levi in the morning so he can have some to ride and I can get some rode.. probably he will have 4 and I will get two back… Addy Bear is hanging out with us today… I am working on leather… got a couple sets of bucking rolls laid out to finish up for me and drew out the patterns for the stirrup leathers on my new saddle…
Warm…
Supposed to get up to 60 by this afternoon, then cooler and snow and wind coming tomorrow afternoon, night… wheee, spring on the Northern Plains…
Tate and the girls came out this morning and he helped me run the cows in and we sprayed them with wormer and lice control… ran out of the wormer part way thru’ so just used the lice stuff for the rest.. did it all horse back and it worked real slick.. Cindy cooked a roast and now I am way too full! Tate and Airy Cat and CC are about to take off as they need to get back so Mass, when Gabe is serving tonight in Custer…
Same old….
Same old…. warmer weather then it cools off, get a little snow and then it melts off… most of the neighbors are calving, we are the only ones not… and that is a bit odd… the boys bought some cows that were supposed to start in March, so it was claimed and doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen… so far nothing.. this morning for the first time I went and checked to see if there were any, nope… got the last load of hay coming in today and got the new tractor to unload it… Chance and I borrowed a trailer from Clint and went and got it on Saturday… Chances pickup pulled it well, but he was amazed at how hard of a pull it was.. but them tractors stick up in the air, not like a horse trailer.. seems to be a good one so far. different that any I have run, has a joystick for the loader controls, heater and AC, still has the new car smell.. it only had 330 hours on it… 85 horse power Kubota…I’ve piddled around with it the last couple days and sure think we will like it… went over and helped Delbert shear on Friday, took Bill and he is one wool grabbing rascal.. man he almost jerked my arm off trying to hold him back fro eating sheep, while we pushed them up…not much else to report.. supposed to keep warming up, just starting to see a tinge of green here and there, guess it must be spring!
Running…
Friday evening Cindy and I ran into Sturgis for a birthday [party for Gus who turned 7 on Saturday.. Saturday morning we ran back into Sturgis to watch Gabe wrestle at Districts. two very hard matches which he lost on both, but he sure worked hard at it, the second one he lost in overtime… He will do better next year i bet.. he’s a pretty determined feller and real hard headed… must take after his Gramma’s side of the family.. 😉
We had men’s fellowship Sunday evening and a good turnout and a good gathering… this morning I had to run to Philip to do some ban king for this new tractor.. sure would like to get it here and all done with… maybe Chance and I will have to borrow a trailer and go get it this weekend..
We have some weather coming in tonight, doesn’t loo like it will get toot bad here but you never know, got the cows all in and fed well.. my team and saddle hores I had in the corral escaped so I had to go run them in, then I went over to Pubnkin Center to get some more lick barrels for the cows as the ones they had are empty… all the kids are here .. Addy Bear spent the day with Gramma… poor kid, learning all kinds of bad habit no doubt…
Another warm day
Windy, but warmer..up in the 50’s anyway… just came in from feeding cows.. been switching them over to evening feeding for calving.. lots of mud, mud, mud! Sure gives the team a good work out, slopping thru’ it.. worked on some leather today also..a pair of angora chaps, they are a lot of fussing…
A new page
I added a new page to the top of this blog, go check it out, newest saddles and leather work… old page was getting big and took a long time to load, so this is where I will be adding any new saddles or leather items I build… got several on order, need to get them done, but between trying to get us a different tractor and everything else, don’t seem like I am getting a lot done.. tho’ my new apprentice has made a couple trips out… got some photos of him at work, but he is shy so probably won’t post them.. but i do have them! 😀
Sure is nice weather, 50′ at least the last couple days, supposed to get rain switching to snow tonight.. got a young couple coming to pick up a horse in a bit.. I am feeding cows later in the day trying to get them ready for calving… sure is muddy out! I love it! Sure beats frozen and/or dusty!
Music
The rural schools had their Oration contest today and the music teacher asked me to come over after and do some poetry and music and work with the young kids learning guitar.. it was fun for me at least, hope they learned something… Paul was down yesterday afternoon and got more done on his saddle. coming along good, he has done quite a bit of leather works so much of it he already understands.. doing a good job so far…may go look at a tractor tomorrow…we had warm temps yesterday and the water was running and then it froze, Cindy said the roads weren’t fun going in and it is an icy booger out there, but supposed to be 40’s and 50’s the next two days…
