And cool…. I’ll take it… Sam and I drove to Rap[id and yesterday and picked up my buddy Mike from the airport.. he will stay for about 10 days… we planned to brand tomorrow, but decided it was too wet and rainy ad muddy.. of course this afternoon the sun and wind dried it out quite a bit, after we called all the help and canceled it… Tate, Arycat and Lige came out and went fishing… so after lunch Mike and Lige and I went and rode and looked at pastures and cattle… lots of green, a real purty color… Tate and Lige went fishing this afternoon after we got back and came home with a whole mess of fish and Tate is just now finishing up filleting them.. suppose we will be eating some fish tomorrow tho’ I got some pork ribs marinating to smoke tomorrow… we have several branding lined up for Mike to go help at… if they don’t rain out…

Got up about 90 the last couple days.. I guess our two days of Spring are over and now it’s Summer.

Sunday. Rick went with me and we went to Mass at Belle and afterwards Fr Tyler took us fly fishing in Spearfish Creek… didn’t catch any fish or flies but did manage to fall down and get wet.. didn’t even ruin my phone… We went and ate afterwards and then Rick and I got us some new, dry pants and drove up and found the old mining camp of Tinton… stopped and pout flowers on the graves on the way back thru’ Sturgis and then stopped and visited with Bob, Rick’s Dad.. it was good to see him and listen to some stories…

Cindy has been hacking and coughing for several days so I took her to the Doc yesterday… they sent her some antibiotics, not sure what it is, but his is how they’d deal with about anything it could be…we’d planted the garden on Monday and needed a few more plants so stopped and got them and I planted the onions this morning then Chance and I went to load a large propane tank we will need filled for branding cows and calves..  I thought it was pretty full, but Chance thought it was pretty empty, so we went to load it in his flatbed and dropped it and the sharp edge dropped on the big toe of my left foot.. yeah, I know, really hurt.. pretty sure it’s broken, but they can’t really do much for it so i am just using a cane a bit and limping.. this afternoon, we got the horses in and then Chance and the boys and I rope up and found and brought a cow back who got in with the pairs.. she hasn’t calved yet and I was afraid she’d do it along a creek and lose the calf.. Sam rode Pilgrim and I carried the get down in case they had a wreck but he did fine.. Gus rode Beaver and of course got along great…

I wrote all this yesterday but it didn’t post.. today, we fixed some fence, got the old bucket fixed so it fits on the new tractor and loader, then unrolled some pipe so we can water trees when they get planted… I used it to clean a bit in the shed and cleaned on the main corral some… Cindy is fixing shrimp scampi… life is pretty good, got a t=under shower trying to come in.. I pick up Mike for his 10 day stay tomorrow and get some fixing for the tank down south… looks like rain or chance of it the next few days.. supposed to help Travis brand on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, or at least one of them days.. Raymond, an artist friend is coming in to take branding pictures… he will get here Sunday morning sounds like… he ought to get some good ones at Travis’…. I voted early so if we stay late on Tuesday I won’t have to rush back to vote…

Yesterday Chance and I went south east to the breaks and helped Pete and crew.. we gathered cattle and penned them, sorted about 100 pairs off and they put CIDR’s in some for AIing them… when we turned them out, a bunch of calves wanted to go back, so i jumped on Pilgrim and headed out to help stop them, in my haste I did not pull the get down from the bosalita thru’ my chap belt and it fell of the saddle horn so I reached forward and down to pick it up and Pilgrim threw his head up at that time and smacked me in the mouth with the top of his head… not fun…. we got them stopped and paired up.

I am about to head out with a good lifelong friend. we will go to Mass at Belle with Fr Tyler and then he will show us a good fly fishing spot…it’s going to be a great day.. I will stop and put wreathes on grandparents graves sometime today. Hope you all enjoy your Memorial Day weekend…

Helped brand at K C’s on Saturday and Q’s on Sunday, then helped sort yesterday at Cliff’s… Gramma and I took Sam, Gus, Addie Bear and a neighbor girl to their skip day. they panned for gold. they got wet. And giggled and laughed to distraction.. but by golly they had fun! I have to go help Rob sort pairs tomorrow… one of these days I may even get something done around here! Got some more pasture cattle coming in this evening, s I better go catch my horse so I can kick them south.. grass is popping now, 70’s the last few days.. cloudy and a nice day today, not much breeze until about mid afternoon…

A boy was born to Walter and Lizzy and grew up into a adventurous and industrious lad, who eventually married my Mother..  His name was Roy. Mom’s 100 birthday would have been on the 21’st of this month… they sure seen a lot of changes in their lifetimes…

Odds and ends day here, went and pulled a large tank home to set where I will fill it with water and let it trickle down to water trees we are going to plant, made the little orange tractor grunt pretty hard! Straightened out a pretty big clevis I had to reshape, from the pull… ran over to Punkin Center and got some waterline for the project and fencing material… we had Addy Bear today and then the boys after school, so she helped me unload the material… had three windy days of branding and got a branding tomorrow, wind isn’t supposed to blow as much…

Went on Friday and helped move yearlings and then branding yesterday and today.. Friday was nice, light breeze, not hot and then lots of breeze ad down right chilly yesterday and worse today… I hope all the mothers out there had a wonderful Mothers Day….

Started raining yesterday sometime, and still getting some.. had some snow this morning… as someone pointed out, that makes 7 months in a row we have had some snow… man, the grass ought to grow this year! Got brandings scheduled for the weekend, both days and again next week too, I think… supposed to go help move some yearlings across country tomorrow.. if the road isn’t too muddy to get there… we have some wind with this, but not real bad… Addy Bear and  took a bale out to the drop bunch and unrolled part of it, so if a cow wants to calve , she could do it on some drier stuff, for awhile… not many left out there to calve…

If you look on the left hand side of this blog, you will see a blog roll, friends and people ,who’s blogs I read or check up on.. one is simply titled, Jeffro….

I met Jeffro thru’ reading his blog and comments he left on other blogs and eventually Facebook.. he was an over the road trucker and happened to come thru this area on occasion.. once, he called and let me know he was staying over in Rapid City.. I was busy, but decided I’d like to meet him so drove down and we had a short but good visit.. I am sure glad I did as he passed away just the other day… we’ve stayed in touch thru’ the internet ever since… he had been having some health issues and I hadn’t heard anything from him in awhile so finally went to his Facebook page and left him a note. He answered right away, but he was pretty down… I had been praying for him and let him know…  a couple days later I read he had died… RIP Jeffro, you were one of the good guys….

Warm, but cloudy with some breeze blowing, went out and kicked out some pairs this morning and then when I turned my horse loose remembered we had a bad eye’d calf who needed a shot, so ran to the neighbors to borrow some vaccine as mine is old or gone… went out and saddled Beaver, he needs some riding to get in shape for Grandkids… found and roped the calf, doctored him under mama’s watchful eyes… this evening Cindy and I drove up to Mud Butte for Mass as I am supposed to help a neighbor brand tomorrow morning… don’t seem like I got a lot done.. oh, yeah, drove a few of the neighbors cows out of Harry’s and cobbled up the fence at a watergap where they went back thru’… Rode Pilgrim this morning and he’s getting this spade bit deal figured out…

Mayday! We have green grass and warmer temps and the wind is supposed to slow down! What ever will we do?

I took Hub and Butter down to the vets and had them gelded.. we’d attempted to geld Hub last spring or fall, can’t really remember, but he had oe up inside and they couldn’t get it.. more extensive expensive surgery… I was amazed, they go in high, just like I would on a calf when i am cutting them and they have one up high, but they sewed him up afterwards.. we never do on calves.. Guess calves are tuffer than horses… wind blew all the way down south east and I fought it all the way back northwest on the return trip…

Got another branding to go to tomorrow. Oh drat! 😉 LOL
