HI, I found your blog through the Cowboy Poetry write up in the Sept/Oct issue of South Dakota magazine. My family lived on the old Nelson place when I was a kid. I have fond memories of stopping at Red Owl and getting a bottle of pop. My dad would have definiely approved of those curtains!
No, actually I think I’ve confused Red Owl and Red Elm….that’s what 57 years will do. It was Red Elm that had the little store and was close to the Nelson place. However, my dad’s sister was a teacher for the BIA and taught at a school that I think was called Red Owl. Their names were Harold and Leona Johnson.
Well, no one from the BIA ever taught at Red Owl, I am sure as we are 35 mils or so from the nearest Reservation….Red Elm is up close to Faith.
She did good!
What a great idea!! I would have never thought of it! Great job Cindy, thanks for sharing. Hmmm the creative wheels are turning! 🙂
That was a great idea and they sure look great!

Glad to have you on board. Did your Dad have some Red Angus cows he sold while you were living there?
