Cows…. Tate and I each got a few.. sale was real good. There were a couple of dispersions and the cows went for over 3000 a head… younger cows, but I’d hate to pay it…. There was a nice sized group at the funeral. It was of Cindy’s step father, I guess you’d say, tho he and her mother had married late in life and weren’t married all that long.. Cindy was keeping an eye on him after her mother passed away.. he was older and a heavy smoker.. but, he’s at peace now.. got up in the 30’s yesterday.. sure seems a lot nicer… and when it could down not the 30’s a while back it seemed awful cold… life, it’s all about adjustments, I guess…

Got ’em….

The cows. We sat and watched a sale over the internet on Saturday and Tate, Chance and I all got some cows bought, so today we drove up to the sale barn, used their chute and branded them… one of Chances jumped a tall fence and got out so we told them to run her back thru’ this next sale.. we don’t need that kind around here. Glen came along with his trailer to help haul them home.. I had a gig at 1 so he rode along with me and I think I really impressed them folks with my atmosphere, walking in smelling of branding smoke! They all seemed to enjoy it and were a great crowd… then Glen and I drove back to the sale barn and loaded trailers… Tate had went in with just his pickup and he and Chance and Hope went to Belle and picked up a flatbed Chance and Hope had bought… Glen and I were just loading the last trailer load when they showed up sop we headed out, got home and unloaded and fed the new cows… funeral and cow sale again tomorrow…

Cold

But just a breeze so it didn’t seem so bad… Gus spent the day with me, he is still recovering from pneumonia and is’t quite 100%… we went out and strung the cows out with a couple bales, so they’d go back where the grass is, or at least the new ones.. then the horses followed us back s we got them back out east and turned 3 saddle horses out of the corral, we’d kept up after we shipped… been working on a saddle some today and yet this evening…

Shippin’ time!

And a cold one to boot. 10 degree’s here today.. got 4 to 6 inches of snow on the ground, roads weren’t real pretty but we got the calves shipped.. lots of bawling cows in the corral.. calves looked good, weighed good and sold good, hard to find anything to complain about! Now, we will get the cows pregged in the near future and get some more cows hauled in…

Weather change

Fog rolled in yesterday evening and a little drizzle and snow and wind this morning.. we went and lured all the cows and calves in close with a tractor and a bale of hay… they came on the run… we have everything close and be handier to ship in the cold tomorrow, if the weather and roads permit… got a taste of winter, but looks like it’s supposed to be 30 by next Sunday… suppose to have a load of cows coming in today, we’ll see….. there is a little fork horn buck deer out here with two ear tags and they read “Tony” on them, Chance said,, he set out some grain and the deer walked right up to it, about like a butcher critter, couldn’t pet him, but he’d sure come to feed, somebody’s pet I suppose…

Done

Got all the pasture cattle loaded and hauled off today and we also hauled a couple of Tate’s cows and calve who were fence crawler…  now…. get the calves shipped on tuesday, preg on wednesday, sell the opens and go to buying bred cows… somewhere in there we need to get an old track hoe running and see if we want to buy it to use building a house and putting in septic and water lines… hectic…

Ouch

I’ve been building a new bale wagon for my team, while cutting off an i beam yesterday I let the cut off part drop onto my foot… I was sure it was out of the way… but I was wrong! Chance had some business to do in town so I decided to get an x ray.. not broke, just real sore… Cindy had an old boot like they put on you and I wore it and used my cane.. it was well worth it as I got the senior discount at Pizza Hut for lunch! I knew this white hair in my beard was gonna pay off one of these days! NIce day, supposed to be windy out of the south east tomorrow… been looking at trailers and there just aren’t a lot of stock trailers, guess they build them for people who own horses and not cattle… may have to get an aluminum, but not too crazy about that… talked to my Amish guy last night, he sez them colts like to prance, he hasn’t driven them too many times, but has about 5 days on them.. I told him to get them to where they will stand at a gate with loose lines long enough to open or close a gate… guess Rill is touchy about her ears but is getting better.. anxious to get them home and hooked up…

Nothin’

At least interesting to write about.. just doing fall work stuff.. we will ship calves in a couple weeks.. may go help move some cattle for a neighbor tomorrow. Wind is howling and supposed to continue thru’ tomorrow evening and not real warm.. guess I will just have to put my wooly chaps on! Been using the new leather sewing machine and getting along better and better. been working on a new bale wagon for the team… ordered a 3500 pound winch for it today… making it bigger and stouter, as these bales are pretty heavy… been needing to make a new one for years now, this one will look like a factory job when i get done…. I hope! Tate and Kass hauled out another trailer pad of stuff this past weekend.. now they just have to get it all arranged in the house.. glad it’s them and not me.. guess we are going to build a house, at least Tate and Chance will be building it, but I bet I get roped into helping! 😀 Cindy has needed a nice ouse for a long time.. me? I just want something that looks cool  and it should.. and the boys are good enough carpenters I am not worried about that, just be nice to get it done and then we will have to move junk!

Fall work

Haven’t posted for awhile.. haven’t been doing too much exciting.. went and helped Q ship calves yesterday.. sure were nice looking.. had a nice visit with his brother Allen who I only get to see once or twice a year.. working on leather and a new bale wagon and odds and ends.. real warm yesterday, 70 something anyway… supposed to cool off this weekend.. looks like Tate and Kass will get moved out this weekend..

Runnin’

Got the horses in yesterday morning, caught up Wren and Rill and took them to the Amish out west of here.. the guy was not at home so I just left them, he called yesterday evening to discuss what they had already done and what I wanted done with them.. he’ll call me back in a week to 10 days and we will make a plan to bring them home.. seeing I was off west of home, I drove on down to Custer and left met trailer for Tate and Kass to load up so they can use it to haul their stuff out here, sounds like they may have it for a couple weeks.. I may have to run down and pull it home for them… had some cows out the other day and Chance just moved them, but didn’t shut gates so I saddled Bro up and went down and moved them and shut gates.. they don’t want to eat thru’ all the tall grass, they just want to nibble where it’s short.. dumb ol’ cows! Working in the leather shop, got chaps to repair, chaps to build and saddle to repair and build.. sure is a nice day, seems a shame to be in the house, but I got to get this stuff done and out of here… waiting for glue to dry right now…
