the last few days. Warm and not a lot of wind. After I got done feeding, Cindy and I took out the trash and then pickup up Hope and Sam and Addy Bear ( who’s birthday it is today, she is 2!) and we went down to the old house and tore some boards of the old barn I built 30 some years ago…same stuff Tate made our doors for the kitchen remodel..Hope if fixing p their house. She really has a great eye for what looks cool. Now, eating some lunch and then a siesta! Mike, do not call and wake me up! 😉

Here is a photo from last night…

After I fed with the tractor this morning, me and Buck went over to help shear sheep at Delbert and George’s. Ol’ Buck had more fun than the law allows!

I let him run when I got home, actually quit just as they were getting done so I could come home and visit with Fr Tyler a bit before he had to take off back to his work. When he left I walked out and put Buck away. Jake had to stay home and here is the conversation I imagine they had in the dog house.

J “Where did you and the boss go today?”
B “Danged if I know but man we had a blast! They had sheep!”
J “well, what were they doing with the sheep?”
B “Danged if I know but they let me chase them and look at them and stare at them and chase them and stare at them…..”
J “Whoa, whoa! What do you mean you chased and stared at them?”
B “Just what I said, they let me run around and chase them into a pen and then we’d chase small bunches into a shed and then into an alley way and then up a real narrow alley way..and i got to chase them and stare at them and they moved away from me so I stared and moved them some more!!!! It was like heaven!!!!”
J “You mean to tell me than ran away from you? Not like these stupid bums around here that just ignore us until we bite them?”
B “Yes! They actually were AFRAID of me!!!! I felt like a god!!!”
J “Well why on earth did the boss let you do this to them?”
B “Darned if I know but it was FANTASTIC!!! And there was this lady dog there and she bite me and got me down in the dirt and tried to bite my throat and she’d bite the sheep and … dude, she wants me! I can tell….”
J “Whoa, whoa! A lady dog? Man, I wish I’d get to meet a lady dog!”
B ” Yeah…. and they had sheep!!! And I got to chase them and stare at them and they were scared of me……..

Well, you get the idea, ol’ Buck was in Border Collie heaven….

He’d say Thanks Delbert, if he knew how…. or stopped drooling about all the sheep he got to work today long enough to think of it….

This morning when I went to feed. Sam and Gus came to the house to tell me they were going along. So we went and fed the cows. When we came back Hope and Chance and Addy Bear were working on some fence so I stopped to take a picture and Gus deserted us…for some reason WordPress is not letting me upload any of the pictures! I hate when that happens!

Well, I figured it out, I needed to buy a space upgrade… I see how they are, suck you in with a free amount of space, get you used to it and then make you pay to continue! Oh well, I guess it worked on me!

happening around here. the wind has been blowing out of the south east and the temp sez it ain’t that cold, but it feels like it. Got maybe an inch of snow today. sounds like folks south and south east of here are getting hammered. I suppose it’s waiting to when most are calving and then we will get our share!

Had a flat on the front tire of the tractor yesterday so pulled it off and took it over and got it fixed and picked up some dog food. Put it on this morning and seeing as i had to start the tractor to raise the front end up I just went ahead and fed with it. Had to break ice on the tank this morning for the first time in quite awhile… all the cattle and horses are drinking out of it, so it has to get fairly cold before it will freeze that hard and even then the horses usually have a hole broken or gnawed thru’….

On Saturday morning I visited with my buddy Paul from down in the Hills and he reminded me that there was an open Mic night at Chute Roosters in Hill City. such nice weather I decided to go and at least listen to him as he is recovering from a broken wrist and was playing. I called Cindy and she was up for it, so Hope dropped me off at Cindy’s job as she had to follow Chance in as he was dropping their pickup off for some work on it. Cindy and I had a leisurely drive thru’ the Hills by way of Deadwood, got to Hill City early enough to try out the Mexican cafe I had heard good things about. Great food at Rico’s! Then we checked out the Farmers Daughter store. cool place with lot’s of neat things in it. Hope and her sister had set up there awhile back and passed out cupcakes and took cake orders for their Two Sister’s cake making business and had told Cindy about it. Then we drove up to the gig and visited and waited and when Paul got there he had me sign up for the open Mic. They had a great bunch of talent and one of the best audience I had ever been lucky enough to perform in front of. Very respectful of the performer and all types of music and all great! They even said they liked my set! I would urge anyone to get to it before they quit for the season . Held every other Saturday at 7 pm as I understand it. We didn’t have to pay a cover charge and I was told performers got their meal for half price, so that was cool. Next time I will eat after I get there! I think there are two more in March and then they are done until next fall/winter. Sure would be fun to get something like that going out here….

We spent the night in Sturgis on a miserable hard bed at a Motel I will not be going back to. when I pay for even a few hours in a bed I expect to get a little respect from the person checking me in, not a bunch of back talk… and the bed was hard! I got a couple hours of sleep. Cindy got me up and I took her to work and then drove to Spearfish and had a long breakfast and rad the Sunday paper and then went to Mass and got to hear Fr Tyler’s homily. As always, an excellent job by him..

Then when Cindy got off work we drove to Rapid and met Tate and Kass and kids at a bowling alley. We were celebrating Gabe’s 8th birthday early as he will be 8 tomorrow. I didn’t even give him his birthday spanking! We went to Golden Corral to eat after bowling and then they were off to a movie and we came home… I slept real good part ways thru’ the night and woke up itching so got up, took pills and watched TV until I was groggy -the pills do that to me- sure didn’t want to get up this morning…windy and cooler with some weather coming in tonight or tomorrow. hope had to take the kids to town as Sam is real sick. Pneumonia in both lungs and they have to wake him every two hours and try and heal him up with a Neb machine. Gus and Addy Bear are to use it Chance came home from work to help with the kids….hope he’s feeling better tomorrow. He is such a tuff little guy that you don’t realize how sick he is until he’s really sick!

So Happy Birthday Gabe. See you in a few weeks when thew weather is better and we will ride horses, buddy!

When I went out to feed this morning I got all hooked up, hooked the team to a bale and as I went to raise it one of the support arms that has a lot of leverage on it broke and bent. I unhooked from the bale, drove and parked the wagon in front of the shop and put the horses away. Setting and waiting for the tractor to warm up so i can get it out of the way in the shed and push the wagon in to weld on it and fix it. Cody D is supposed to be coming and he used to weld so maybe if he gets here quick enough I will make him weld it for me! Hey, that is what friends are for!

Cindy and I went to the cafe last night and met up with friends and had a Valentines supper. Good food, good friends, an enjoyable evening….

Plugged the tractor in last night so I could feed early this morning and then run to town for an early appointment to do taxes. Went quick. First time I didn’t forget something I think.

Bought some groceries and got some wood pellets and ate a bite and headed home. Also bought some stuff for my Valentine…. off to Ash Wednesday services in a bit… Lent starts today. No cussing and try and eat better and do more for the next 40 days of Lent leading up to the Glory of Easter.

We are supposed to meet up with a bunch of the neighbors tomorrow evening for a Valentines dinner at the local cafe tomorrow night. Be good to catch up with what everyone has been up to.

Sounds like we got a chance for snow tonight and tomorrow and lots of wind for the next 24 hours. Cindy will be pleased…..

Mike and Maddie sortin' in the rain
Two cool friends!

Made it out to California and back in one piece. Had great weather for the most part, but then, I like rain! Really only rained one day. Had a great set up, a great group of people running things, in the event and to hang out with. My buddy Mike took good care of me and so did his friends who are now mine. I rode his horse Maddy the first day I was contesting and she was lame the next so Robin Bond gave me her great horse Chappo for the day. Good? No, fantastic! Both of those horses won their respective divisions, so I rode two of the very best there and I’d say they had to be tops in that country for that work. Got to meet lot’s of friends I had made over the internet and new ones. It completely changed my mind about that country from the last trip. Of course, I didn’t have to drive thru’ LA and all them other over stocked highways either!!!!!!

I can not begin to describe how fantastic the whole experience was… I get a lump in my throat when I think of the kindness’s extended to me and how royally all of us out of town’ers were treated. Stupendous! Amazing! These and any other word can not even come close to how it was…. Muchas Gracias, amigo’s….come to my land, I will attempt to extend you the same courtesies and treatment!
