I’m back!

Gig in Hot Springs went well. Met some old friends and made some new ones. We missed a few familiar faces from the past, but that is as it always is.

Wind is really roraring out ther today. Gust over 50 mph. Sure glad we don’t have snow!

I stopped in Custer and picked up Gabe, our 4 year old grandson. He is the oldest grandson and belongs to Tate and Kass. Tate is our middle son and is a carpenter in the Black Hills. He served in the Army and spent a year over playing in the sandbox when out country first went in to Iraq. Tate and Kass also have Lige who is almost 3.

I thought Chance and Hope were going to come down this weekend to Hot Springs, but things changed for them. Chance is our youngest son and just lives a few miles from us. He is the father of Gus and Sam.

Tyler, our oldest son and is a priest, is off to Boston for training this week, I believe.

There Dick, know have you got everyone figured out?

Thanks for all the kind words folks. I sure appreciate all the wonderful people who read this blog and comment and jump to my defense! I don’t care what anyone say’s you are all special.

And I mean that in the good way! LOL

Guess who this belongs too?

I wouldn't want anyone to do anything serious to a pinhead,
but for some of you so inclined,
here's the info I got from the pinheads email. (hint hint, Dick!) LOL

Go ahead pinhead, screw with me.

Pinheads

I had a pinhead show up on here, making rude comments about my leatherwork. I allowed the comments, while asking them for pictures of their work. They don’t seem to think they need to show theirs and yet can find fault with mine. I am not saying I am the best, far from it, yet I have turned out serviceable work for quite a few years now with many happy customers.

I don’t mind critisim, in fact I ask for it. I don’t think anyone is harder on me than I am myself, yet if someone is to tell me what I am doing wrong in their mind, they had better be willing to give some examples of their work for me and the world to judge. I think that is only fair.

I went back and deleted the pinheads comments and will nt allow any more, until they show what they got.

Now, off to the breaks to help a neighbor work some cattle. Taking both Mijo and Pilgrim as it could get to be a long day and I hate riding a tired horse. Unlike the pinhead, I actually use what I build and have figured out what will and will not work!

The crew

Heres a picture by the lovely Nancy Cook, of the crew that went to help out at the benefit the other night.

A motley crew indeed!

Chance, me, John (who the benefit was for) Ken (the lovely Nancy’s husband) Slim, Rhonda and in front, Bill and Hubba ( of Hubba’s House fame)

If I had seen us all together like this, I’d have wanted some armaments!

Grandkids

Had Gus and Sam here the past couple days. They sure keep you hopping trying to keep up with them.

Rode the pony the last couple days as she isn’t as broke as she first appeared. She’s fine in the corral with the kids, but when you get out and try and get her to do what you want, she shows she hasn’t had much training. She will get better.

Here’s what I worked on today. It’s the covers for my new address book, or memory, if you will!

Sunday 9/20

Chance and Hubba, from Hubba’s House fame, and I went out to Newcastle yesterday to try and raise some money for a buddy who is fighting cancer. They had a silent auction, a regular auction and a supper. Had a great time and made some music and got home about 1 this morning. Got up about 6 so I could go to church. Then some people showed up and we gathered our little bunch of cows after dinner and we roped and held the calves for their fall shots and wormer/bug control. I think the calves had less stress than if we had took them away from their mothers and shoved and shouted and fought them down a chute. Chutes are made so people can do things faster, not better, in my opinion.

Went great other than the wind came up and got to blowing about 35 mph and took a lot of the fun out of it. Had a couple of young adults here from Germany who work for the lady who came to help. Nice kids and we sure enjoyed them and sure appreciated Brandy coming over to help. Here’s some shots.

By the way, Eric is the neighbor who starts most of my colts and the other guy in the pictures roping with Chance. Good hand. Wish he’d get to riding some more of my colts! LOL

Hope gave th shots and Dennis ( the young German feller with a great first name 😉 ) squirted the wormer /insecticide on. Never got a shot of the young lady. She watched us work/play and kept an eye on Brandy’s little boy, Emmet.

Afterwards we came in the house, ate, drank and played and sang songs. Great day, all in all.

Saturday, Sept 19, 09

Fiddled around a long time yesterday copying some flower patterns and trying to get them sized the way I want and then mirror images so I can put them on the left and the right and they will match. Can’t seem to get it done on this computer any more. Not sure how I used to do it, but the programs I am trying to use now don’t seem to work. For instance, when I flip a pattern over, it will show it flipped, but when I go to print it off, it reverts back to th original. Maybe this is a sign to just learn to draw each one out as I go, as I am supposed to be doing. Swivel knives were originally intended to be used like a pencil, on leather, tho’ maybe a pen would be more apt, as if you make a mistake, you can’t just erase it.

I finally just drew a pattern on to a spur leather pattern (if that makes sense) and then flipped it over and copied it so it has the design on both sides. This is what I ended up with.

These are a dove wing pattern. There is no buckle, you just slip each end on one of the buttons on your spurs. I have not punched the holes for the spur buttons yet. I had just covered these with some protective cream and the picture didn’t come out as good as I wanted.

Chance and I are going out to a benefit for a guy I know who is fighting cancer, at Newcastle. Maybe I should take these along for them to auction off. Usually they never bring what I think they should and it just makes me angry, so I would rather just give them some money.

Gus

Chance got a job working on some road construction over east a ways from here, so Gramma kept the boys on Monday and Tuesday, and then a near neighbor of theirs kept them on Wednesday. Gus has a little cold or something, anyway he has a runny nose and the young lady didn’t want to give it to her kids, so the Chance and Hope asked if I could watch Gus yesterday. I had nothing better to do so said I would. We didn’t get a lot accomplished! Crackerjack didn’t get his eye doctored as often as he was supposed to, as I didn’t realize that Gus can escape the crib! Little booger just crawls out someway, so I was afraid to leave him when he went to take his nap, for fear he would wake up and escape and get into trouble while I was out side. Oh well I just doctored him a little later than normal. His eye is getting better I think. While I doctored on Crackerjack, Gus found a way to amuse himself with Patches.
