Thought on getting older

In just a few days, I will have a birthday. 63 year. Doesn’t seem that old, in this day and age. My body tells me it is, as things don’t work like they used to, so I can not do the same work for the same amount of time. Things I used to enjoy are no longer fun to do. Hard to find anything on TV worth watching. Hard to find books I enjoy reading.

Probably the most appalling thing to me is, what has happened in my life time to the country I live in.

I have been a life long follower of Jesus Christ. I find as I age, that He has much more appeal to me and what He advocates for us to live a good life and follow Him. I am sad to admit that when I was younger, I didn’t think I needed Him or His rules very much.

And I think that is what has happened to this country, in my lifetime. Except it used to be, most adults in this country felt as I do now and encouraged all to follow the 10 Commandments. Now, adults seem to mostly ignore them.

When I was younger, very few people, man and woman, openly lived together without the benefits of a marriage. Most children who were born, had a mother and a father, barring an accident or death of one parent or the other. Drugs were something the doctor gave you when you were sick. Abortions were not performed by legal doctors. At least not one who were operating out of public Hospitals and clinics. Divorces were far and few between.

All that changed in my lifetime.

Now, it is perfectly acceptable for people to have children without the benefits of marriage. And if a woman has several children fathered by several men, it’s no big deal. Heck, the government will give them a good monthly paycheck for each child they have. “Helping” them. Everyone seems to think that is a good thing. There is no shame in living together with out the benefit of marriage. Divorce is a fairly common thing. From what I read, of the people who do decide to marry, over half will get a divorced. Many children are raised with just a mother. Or a grandmother. But no father around. And no once seems very concerned about it.

We have states who are legalizing the sale and consumption of drugs that used to be illegal. They say, it is better, as the jails are too full of people who “just made a mistake”. So lets just legalize these things so it’s no longer a mistake.

It seems like you can do just about anything, and no one will make you feel ashamed. We are more tolerant.

Tolerance.

Sure, tolerate people using booze or drugs and using that as an excuse to abuse the weaker, around them.

You can be sexually promiscuous and that is fine. What’s “good for the goose is good for the gander”. After all, we have easy birth control now. It’s not like your going to cause someone to get pregnant and have to marry her and live with her for the rest of your life! And if you and your partner do have an accidental pregnancy, you can just go get an abortion and the government will pay for it if you can’t.

My, but we have come a long ways.

When you read the news or listen to it or watch it on the many ways to do so, it is distorted and out right lies, that everyone has been trained to believe, are the truth. We have “fact checkers” to reinforce the lies that are written and put out for all to hear and view.

Gosh, seems to me I read about stuff like this years ago… lets see.. when was that? Oh yeah, during the wars! WWI , WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, etc… only thing was, seemed like most of it was pointed toward the enemy to confuse and baffle them and keep them under control.

So I guess as I age I have come to the conclusion, it isn’t much fun. Only thing I have to look forward to of this once great country and world, is that as Jesus let us know, it is not my home and I most likely won’t have to be here too much longer.

And you know what? That is fine by me. But I sure feel sorry for my kids and grandkids and what they will have to endure. But hey, at least we are real tolerant….

  1. Yup, I agree with everything you said, at 68 I’m ready to let go any time. I’ve enjoyed your posts for years, keep it up, Thanks for them all. Larry Evans

  2. I could have written the same thing, you are just more eloquent than me. At 76 it is mind boggling what all has changed, and not all for the better. God just may return quicker than we thought, we just have to be ready.

  3. You are so right, morals and right just don’t seem to exist any more, they are few and far between at times. We have Awana’s at our church and some of the new kids do not know what the bible is and say they never saw one or have one in their house. We provide them with a new bible to take home, sometimes we never see it again but there are always a few that bring it back and want to ask questions, a few times the family start coming to church and want to hear about this God we talk about. If one family starts church and are saved it is worth hundreds of bibles to be passed out.

  4. I am glad James Harriot, All Creatures great and small is back on. It is a refreshing show with lots of beautiful country side and interesting to see how vet things were done years ago. It is on here on Sat. night on PBS I do enjoy the house, the mantel has some very pretty pieces and the table ware i always interesting. I have read his boods and watched this years ago but am enjoying it again now.
