Oh my word!

Well, I am glad I went and drove those young men around, in their carousing, so they could drink and not worry about getting a DUI, I am sure I will never be the same again! The loss of innocence, is so sad!

We went to a couple “gentlemen” clubs. The young ladies (I am assuming they were young, tho in some cases it seemed hard to tell) who work at these “clubs” were energetic, athletic and even for a short time entertaining. But I must say, that it grew tawdry very fast. Very few seemed to be very  accomplished dancers, but they were friendly! At least the ones I visitied with were. One who didn’t have a lot of excitement on the dance floor and was a tad bit out of shape, seemed to be a very nice young lady to visit with. I am sure they need to be to make their dollar, but she, and all the rest I visited with, seemed to really enjoy visiting with an eldery novice at these sort of night spots.

The young men enjoyed themselves whole heartedly and made me laugh almost non stop. When I asked why they would be interested in looking at partialy clad females, none of whom was any better looking, and many who were not nearly as beautiful as the wives they left at home, they really didn’t have an answer. I guess it must be some sort of young man initiation. Men and boys will be men and boys.

Worst part is, tho’ I tried my darndest to remain just a keen observer and not to let any untoward thoughts enter into my mind and merely tried to take a spectators view and enjoy the athletic feats and finesse of the workers, much as you would while watching any sport, I am afraid I will need to go to confession at church, now!

It’s not something I will look forward to going and doing again, but I suppose everyone ought to go at least once

And what is with the women who go to these places and even take part, from the floor? Odd. Very odd.

Whew!

The fox wasn’t rabid!

Chance, Hope, the boys and I went to Rapid today. Sam got his cast off and we brought home a POA mare. Hopefully she will rmember her training from when she was youg. She was cheap enough that if she doesn’t we aren’t out too much.

I am the DD for a bachelor party tonight. Hopefully they won’t stay out all night!

Sumbuck!

I went out this morning and started tearing the old fence down in the corral. Cindy came along and helped for a bit. Then my dog started barking over at the woodpile, so we went to see what he had tree’d. When we got there, we saw a yellow streak run under the old truck with both my dogs after it and I thought it was probably a stray tom cat. I got there and looked under the truck and it was a fox.
So I kenneled the dogs and got to thinking about it and decided that probably I should shoot him, just in case he had rabies. I hollered at Cindy to stay there at the truck so he would stay, until I could get a gun and she said he had already left heading east. I let the dogs out, got in my little purple Suzuki and loaded my rifle and we headed out to see if we could find him. A hawk was dropping at something on the ground so I headed over there and saw a fox, so shot, but missed. As he ran off I shot again and got him. I loaded him into an old salt sack and called the vet. They said get him packaged and on ice and get him in there pdq!

So we quick cleaned up, loaded up and headed for town. We ran into construction on the way, but it’s funny, if you get up over that 100 line, you can make up lots of time!

We get to the vet and they screw around while I mutter about driving so fast at their insistence and then they screw around.

Now we wait and keep my dogs in, until we find out if the fox had rabies. He damn sure had the mange as he was missing lots of fur and looked like hell. This is what we get when we quite trapping and let mother Nature control the wildlife. steamed

I think both my dogs were vaccinated last spring when a vet was here to cut a stud, but I am not sure. If the fox shows rabies, my dogs have to be quarantined or shot, unless I can prove they are current on their shots. I suppose I’d have to take the shots, tho’ I only touched the fox after he was dead, but my dog might have got saliva on me and he had blood on his front legs. Maybe from a bite from the fox. He yipped once anyway.

So now we wait.

Dammit!

Some gone

Had a couple neighbors come this morning and help Chance and I bring the steers in and load them on trucks for the sale. We drove up and watched them sell. Gained around 2 pounds a day, looks like. I thought they might have done better than that, with all the feed. We were short 3 head and Chance looked all around us for them, while I was gone to Iowa for a gig this weekend, but couldn’t find any, so I guess I need to call the neighbors.

We built on some corrals the other day and need to do some work on the loading chute. Where we added the new stretch of fence on, we need to go in and take the old fence out and salvage all we can for the chute project and also any other thing we need posts and planks for.

Guess what I am going to be doing for the next few days? LO

Today is my sister Marianne’s birthday. I better go call her and wish her a happy birthday!

Got them

Had some neighbors come  help Chance and I today. We gathered the steer bunch and the spayed heifer bunch (seeing as they had gotten a gate down and mixed together) and brought them in to the corral and sorted them. Put the heifers back down south and left the steers here on the north side so we can ship them on Monday. We may or may not be short 3 head, depending on if I got a good count or not. I think I miscounted, but we rode colts down south into the neighbors pasture to look for missing steers. Nope, none there. I am leaving for Iowa for a gig tomorow so Chance can look for them. If we are short on Monday, I will just have to get them to the owner when we find them. He has 2500 head of them scattered around the country, so they would fit on with some of his others.

Don’t you guys do anything foolish while I am gone for a couple days.

I heard the cicada’s singing this evening and saw some marigold or ragweed or whatever that yellow plant is, and it is blooming, so according to the old timers, we are 6 weeks from a frost.

Oh, heres the corrals we built yesterday and the new gate we got hung on there. Sure wore this old fat man out! I mentioned to Chance that he could tear the old one on the inside down, when he wasn’t busy looking for lost yearling’s or riding colts or whatever. You suppose they will be tore down when I get back????? LOL

Hot

Warmed right up. We were getting spoiled with all this 80 degree stuff. Gets up to 90 or over and it seems real hot and with all the rain we been getting it’s pretty dang humid.

Chance and Gus and I went down north of Rapid and got some highline poles from a guy yesterday. We got them unloaded and today we started hauling them out north of the corrals to build a new fence line. Then I broke the hydralics on the tractor. We had visitors come in later, after doinner. Sure a nice family. I  met the husband thru’ the internet and they were in the Hills so they drove out. Great people.

After they left we went out and worked on the tractor, got it fixed and put on the post hole digger and dug some holes. So in the morning I can go to digging out holes and setting posts. I just have tomorrow to work on it as Thursday we are sorting yearlings and I leave for a gig in Iowa on Friday. Hopefully I can get it done tomorrow. Also dug holes to extend and fix on the loading chute.

Tyler came in last night so this evening Hope and Chance and the boys and Gramma and I went to Red Owl and Tyler said his daily Mass. Pretty cool, just the family.

Hmmmm, very interesting!

Went to Faith this morning for the parade, breakfast and the rodeo. Rained before the rodeo and it was muddy! I mean serious muddy!
Then the sun came out for the start of the rodeo, but it was still muddy. Towards the end it poured buckets, just as the man and woman team roping was going on. What a bunch of good hands! They went out there and roped in a down pour and just grinned and laffed. That’s the way we here in a high desert area do when we get good rains. We all know that mud never lasts nearly as long as dust!

The wild ride was one of the best I’ve ever seen. Way to cowboy up and entertain us all, folks!

Thank you Lord for the rain!

I knew it!

I just found this on Allan Nations blog.

A comparison of grassfed versus grainfed beef by Clemson University has found ten health advantages for consumers in the grassfed product. These are:

1. Lower in total fat

2. Higher in beta-carotene

3. Higher in vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol)

4. Higher in B-vitamins and riboflavin

5. Higher in minerals calcium, magnesium and potassium

6. Higher in total omega 3’s

7. A healthier ration of omega 3 to omega 6 fats (1.65 vs 4.85)

8. Higher in CLA (a potential cancer fighter)

9. Higher in vaccenic acid ( which can be transformed into CLA)

10. Lower in saturated fats linked with heart disease.
