Duh turty point buck!

That’s what everyone will be lookin’ for here this morning. Opening day of deer season. I have one guy coming. Tate was coming and bringing a co worker, but they can’t make it until next weekend. They are just after meat, ie. “does” anyway. But Tate also has a tag that can be used for bucks or does, so he probably wouldn’t pass up a “wall hanger”. Problem is, there are not that many “wall hangers” out there. If people would quit shooting bucks for a couple years and let some of these young ones get some size, then there would be. Oh well, talkin’ to the wind, around here, to try and talk people into not shooting bucks unless they are worth getting mounted.

  1. Around here deer season is mid-August to mid-Sept. We do our best to keep our eyes open for safetys sake!
Years ago TrapperDude use to do Taxidermy as a side job. The majority of the folks had a whole ‘nother mindset: bigger is better and “if his buck is bigger next year I’m goin here where the bucks are ten times bigger …”. Between that and “isn’t my mount finished yet?” a week after it was dropped…I dont miss that side job in the least!

  2. Thinking about yesterday’s blog… A poet, I am not, but here you are….knowing what may come, be grateful for today. ๐Ÿ™‚

At seventy your chassis is much like your truck.
If your wheels stop spinning, you’re out of luck.

You’re parked on the prairie for a day and some years.
Losing all senses, you’re stripped of your gears.

The air in your tires completely plays out,
and grass under your wheels begins to sprout.

Your bumper becomes absent and salvaged for gain,
while the paint on your hood succumbs to the rain.

Your battery, transmission, and bearings are shot.
Once admired upholstery is no longer hot.

Your windshield is shattered, tired, and worn
much like the silence that emits from your horn.

At seventy your chassis is much like your truck.
So keep the oil changed and the maintenance up!

  3. Hunting season starts here next Saturday. Bucks aren’t the ones most want here, we are always looking to get a doe permit and we don’t get one everyone year. Lots of doe’s and that is what we want!
