11/8/10

Ow! My feet hurt. Walked and walked and shot and shot and we all got our birds yesterday. Beautiful day and a fun bunch to hunt with. Thanks Nick and Mary Jo for providing a place to hunt and a great meal when it was done. You come out and I will try to pay you back in kind!

  1. Yeah Laura, you can each have 3 per day. I always thought deals like this , people were just hogs for shooting so many. In actuality, Thousands got away! At one point there were so many in the sky I didn’t know which one to shoot at. Seriously. It was like a hail storm of pheasants! They tell me there is no way to shoot them all and all you shoot are the roosters. If you don’t shoot most of the roosters you will have fewer pheasants next year as the roosters break the eggs in any next they find. so one rooster to lots of hens. Just like chickens.

  2. Awesome! I wish we had more of pheasant out here but you rarely see them. I love wild game and it has been a long time since I have eaten pheasant!

  3. color me envious……..been two, no three years, since we were out that way chasin’ birds……….and you’re right, a hail storm about discribes it!
First time I hunted SD, I couldn’t even shoulder my gun cuz I didn’t know what to shot at, there were so many………………….

  4. way too much fun having you with us RDennis. In your west river way, you were the colorful hit of the day. I’ve taken hundreds of people hunting, but when you yelled out across the shelter belt, when Murphy missed: “Murphy you lib” – I thought I was going to split a gut. God only made one of you – glad to experience it πŸ™‚

    1. Well thanks Lee! Yup, there is only one and most will yell, very loudly, at that statement, “Praise the Lord”!

It was great. And I had such great conversation with Murph, coming and going. Great guy and sharp as a tack.

Hope you and Jake come visit soon and often! You’ve done a great job with that young man. Hanging out with them two young fellers gives me some faith in this old world, if that is who we are passing it down to.

Visited with a neighbor who has hunted pheasants once or twice and to us, it’s all about the dogs working. Thank for bringing yours!

  5. any time you want to meet me half way at the River, I have a lot of friends in Potter County (and a few in Dewey) where we could hunt. Jake is a good kid. He was pretty pumped shooting 4 birds on that hunt – guess he was carrying some of the weight for Murphy πŸ™‚

  6. Poor ol’ Murph! πŸ™‚

Might have to get Fr Tyler and meet you there. Can you do it on a Tuesday? If so, let me know and I will let him know.

  7. you see if he can do a Tuesday – almost every one of those landowners is Catholic – a priest is a lock to get to go – and I could maybe talk my brother-in-law the priest to come too (although Mondays are better for him). email me at lee@schoenbecklaw.com

    1. Thanks Jake. Great hunting with you also. Don’t forget, you’ve got a deer hunt out here if you want one. Just let me know!
