While visiting with a man who was born and raised in Poland and who’s parents still live there, he mentioned that his father was in the hospital for the last 3 weeks with pneumonia.
This brought up socialized medicine, as our country is trying so hard to get, evidently.
You remember Poland. The country who fought to have a democracy and who is working hard to improve their country while still some of the old commnist ways are hard to get rid of. Like the part where the government can do all for everyone, supposedly?
Anyway, he mentioned that his fathers hospital stay was not that good, but that his mother kept the doctors coming to see her husband by “sliding an envelope with money under the door for the doctor” often.
I asked if there were plenty of doctors in Poland and he said there was, but most did not want to work for the state run hospitals as they could not make as much as going into private practice. So if you want the best for your family while they are in the hospital you must pay extra to get it.
Hmmm, yeah, there is a great plan!

Do you isolate the steers destined for your own table and feed them up on corn molasses, etc. for a couple of months or so?

Jim, it all depends. Sometimes if we are gong to be needing to butcher towards spring when there is lots of cold weather and no feed of high enough feed value to keep one gaining weight, I will keep them in a corral and feed extruded soybean, as it is the only type of grain that does not mess up the CLA (the good cholestoral that helps fight bad cholesterol) and that will get them gaining. When they are on the gain they are more tender. But I prefer to just let them eat grass in the pasture and butcher them out there on the grass. If I bring one in and grain them in the corral I will usually feed them for about a month. The best we ever had and age was a 5 year old spayed Corrientee cow. Melt in your mouth tender and delicious.

I just don’t know..I am so discouraged with our heath care “reform”.. seems to me that if you are from another country and come over here you can get all kind of free healthcare…I think all the politicians should just resign and we should have a do over..but then I am a strange old woman:)
