Still cold

Sounds like a headline from Alaska, tho’ we were colder than them the other day!

December of 84 or 85, it got down around 25 below and stayed there for some time. I remember on Christmas eve, it was 24 below and the wind was blowing. I was trying to pitch hay onto a wagon pulled by my  team and the wind was blowing the hay off. Dad finally got the tractor started just before dark and went up the creek and got the cows fed some hay while I took the manure spreader and hauled them a load of ear corn.

That was a long cold winter. I sure don’t want to see another one like it.

  1. I don’t think I would want to see another one like it either! We have been lucky and not had that cold weather. So far it is just supposed to get down in the teens at night and not much warmer during the day!

  2. Ahh the good old days! It’s not something I want to see either. We were hoping not to start feeding anything before the first of the year but have already started giving the heifers a bite of hay 😦

  3. It might have been in ’85. I was doing inventory that year on the outside of the plant. It was 3 above with a wind speed of 10-25 MPH, one cold Saturday. I’m not whinin here, but that’s cold to be up on Sand Mountain outside for 8 hours. It usually took another feller an me a total of 1 hour to get the job done. I think they got the idea for the Mitch-a-lin man from me that day, brrrrr. My partner an me borrowed a few coats and other clothes from those who got to do theirs inside. My heart goes out to you and all you fine folks up there..yall have a Safe an Gud-un.
