  1. That’s a lot of snow.
    Big drifts too.
I take it the baby is okay?
It takes a good mama to keep a newborn alive in a blizzard.

Don’t know if our weather ever gets to you but if it does look out. BIG snowstorm tonight.

    Lori

  2. OH my goodness! Uh, yeah, it looks a LOT different up where you live. And you’re calving already too? Wow! That’s incredible. Poor lil baby, he’s probably in shock, it was so warm where he was, and then he’s plopped down into the cold, lol. What a shock!
Love your blog! I need to go back in the archives and see your place when it’s all green 🙂

  3. I’m getting back to blogging. I was away at camp for a week so I’m behind. Don’t give up on me! It makes me feel good to know that you read them!!!

  4. Lori, he was born in the afternoon while the sun was shining. Hopefully he is still fine. He had been up and sucked and got a belly full of milk and they can take a lot after that. We aren’t sup[posed to get any until the 1st of April. She’s an early calver evidently. Your weather goes south of us. We are more apt to get what goes thru’ Boseman and that country.

Ruth I will keep checking in. But maybe just once a week. 😉

Thanks for stopping in Mikey! Yeah there are greener pictures scattered around in here.

  5. Ya know whats hard about calving them darn beefers – you sometimes cant tell who the mamma is cuz they clean up so darn fast. If you have a sickly calf that she isnt claiming – you may be in trouble to find out who she belongs too right Dennis? Oh the snow….. may it wait to fall again till next winter…

  6. Hope there was a lot of moisture in all that snow. It would sure help the spring grass. Ah the out-look of new life in spring.

  7. I feel so bad about whining the other day! I hope you folks come through all this all right and all your stock does fine. And I hope winter is over for you.

  8. What! All that snow and not ONE snowman? We’ve been hearing all about your weather on television it’s been so bad. Hope all stays well!

  9. No Heidi, they are good enough mothers you can usually tell. Most people tag with ID numbers, cow and calf the same, right after the calf is born. I just use my cattleman instincts and training my father taught me, on this little bunch. If we had a bigger bunch I’d go back to tagging also.

Good moisture Allen. Lots will run down the creeks I think. But then snow is great for putting nitrogen into the ground.

Thanks collies! We are fine. We’ve almost gotten used to it! LOL This is one of the reasons I dropped our calving dates back. We can still get storms in April and even May, like last year, but it usually warms up fast after.

Snowman, eh? Hmmm, I’ll see if I can muster the strength! LOL These blizzards are what help keep the population down in this country!
