More saddle pic’s

Here is what I accomplished on the saddle today.

I had to run some errands, fix a tire, put some cattle back that were out and ride on some other cattle, among other things so I didn’t get to spend all that much time on this project. I had soaked the leather yesterday and let it dry back some, but it never quite got good enough. So I put it in a plastic bag over night and then took it out this morning and let it dry to a mellow stage. Matter of fact, I kind of hurried it and would have taken more time on an actual saddle.

I like this design tho’ it is a little involved for me and will take quite a bit of time, but in the end, who cares how much time I take. πŸ™‚

Here is the pattern traced onto leather, then cut with a swivle knife. I have stamped the flower centers also. I realized then I should take a picture to put on here.

Here is what it looks like after I got done with it. This took about 2 hours total from the time I started tracing on the leather to when I was finished, I think, ( I wasn’t wearing a stop watch πŸ˜‰ )not counting the time to let the leather dry back to a good stage to trace and carve.

Maybe I’ll get a horse picture on here tomorrow for Pixie!

  1. Pretty steady hand there bub!
I know yall said that you’d be doin alot of toolin on this one, but will yall use this pattern throughout? Or just on certain areas and then have a border pattern?

  2. I will use this pattern through out the saddle and probably add some basketstamping also as I really like the looks of basketstamping.

    Thanks for the comments. πŸ™‚

  3. This is really interesting to me since you are going to be building a saddle for me. Beautiful design. It will go great with basket stamp. That’s one lucky grandkid.

  4. That is just beautiful, Bob! Pretty soon you’ll need a granddaughter to pretty up that saddle! What a talented family!
