Okay, here we go

Okay, here we go.

I have moved the stuff and contents over from the other blog, I think! I sure hope this works. otherwise it’s been a lot of work for nothing.

Now that I am 50 years old, I find that life is much more frustrationg and i don’t think I will have nearly as much patients and tolerance as I had when I was younger.

Yeah, right! Like I had much to begin with! 😉

Thanks Linda for all your hard work on this little move.

Hey everybody, say hi to Linda from the Prairerunner blog.

Go over and check her blog out and leave a comment. Lets see if we can’t obverflow here blog with comment. After all, no good deed goes unpunished1 😉

Howdy!

I am trying to make this into my new website. I will be able to update easier with pictures of new saddles, colts and grand kids. Wish me luck!

The picture at top is of me and Chance with all our young horses. It was taken by Karen Bonnie who is a wonderful artist and was kind enough to let me use some of the photo’s she has taken here on the ranch. Thanks Karen!

I’ve been a little cranky today. Ain’t real sure why, but it got me to thinking.

Someone else posted about losing sleep from calving at this time of year.

Why do we do things in this life to cause us irritations? Like calving when the weather is pretty much bound to be miserable?

My yearling guy and he’s also a friend for some time now, went thru’ hell last spring and every year, trying to calve cows in mud in Iowa. Every year he’s done it and every years he’s bitched about all the work it takes. When I offered good workable solutions, he shot all of them down. I finally decided that basicly, he just wants to do what he’s doing and bitch about it. He refuses to change, tho’ this year he’s working on going to a late summer fall calving deal. More power to him.

But why in the hell are we all so bound to our systems and what would it do to get any one you to change? What would anyone have to do or prove to any of you, to make you change the way your doing things? Anything? Life, job, work, habits?

Life is supposed to be happy.

Sum up the Bible in 4 words and it’s “Don’t worry, be happy.” Tho’ my Bishop had a little problem with that when I told him that. But it’s the truth. God wants us to be happy so why are we all so bound and determined to screw it up and worry and fret all the time?

Anybody?

Growing up around here and still with a lot of people, if you were using a horse to do a job, you weren’t actually working, you were just playing. So?!!!!!!!! The job got done and it was enjoyable. Are we such Calvinists or so Puritanical that we feel we must suffer or it really isn’t work?

Bullshit!

I’m going to keep looking for fun ways to get my work done and make my living. Maybe I’ll end up in hell because of it, but at least I will have enjoyed my short time here.

What do you all think?

Now dammit, I’m going to go over ride my horse and throw some ropes at some calves, all the time teaching the calves to be better and my horse to be better and get better at roping, and dammit, it’s going to be fun! 😉

Here you go Mad.

Mijo the stallion and the two weaner colts. They sure are haired up and fuzzy, ain’t they?

For those of you who haven’t been reading this blog for very long, I have a niece in California- well actually, Cindy does- she is horse crazy, according to her mom. Of course I’m having to take her mom’s word for it because she won’t come out and prove it to me, here at the ranch. Some silly nonsense about the cost of transportation or her having to work or something.

Anyway, I try to keep some horse pictures on here for Mad to look at. We’ll see if she approves of these.

It’s been a long dry spell, huh Mad? 😉

By the way, Mijo is the sire to the two colts pictured. I think he’s pretty proud of them. Especially the little bay filly who is always pinning her ears and chasing the 3 calves in the corral with her, when ever they meet her disapproval! LOL

The little dun is Beaver’s nephew.

Sorry Mad, I tried to up load some pictures of the colts for you, but this blog wouldn’t do it. I don’t know why, I ain’t a computer guy! Hey! That rhymed! 🙂

Drove the team again today and yesterday. made a pretty good circle. I worked on the evener so that Ron was pulling a little more than Roz. They are getting better, it just takes time. when I came back, Gabe was out in the hog pasture where the horses come in to drink and where there are a couple of lick barrels, playing with Nip. Shadow had followed me.

Anyway, when I got the horses unhooked and unharnessed and turned loose, I hollered at Gabe to come over where I was, and when he did, I saw he had been sampling the lick barrels. I guess if they are good enough for the horses they ought to be good enough for an almost 3 year old boy, huh? LOL

I got a call from a neighbor asking if I wanted to ride along to Rapid to a bronc riding. I of course said, “Sure!”

Four of us old duffers and two teens went and had a good time. the broncs didn’t buck that hard, but it was still fun to watch. A young neighbor man ended up winning it, but he had to ride about 5 re-ride horses to do it. I don’t know how long he rode each one, but most just wouldn’t buck and one of the last just laid down in the chute. They finally found one who bucked pretty good and OJ got him rode.

It was a nice way to spend the afternoon and with fun people. Hopefully the next bronc riding I go to will be better. There is supposed to be one on Jan.26 that Cindy and I are planning on going to.

I tried to get some good pictures but it was too dark and when I set my camera for the fast pace, it would try to use flash and everything came out pretty blurry. You can see from this picture why I didn’t take more. And this was one of the better one!

Seeing as how the post Jill wrote brought a lot of crybaby whining liberals out of the closet, I thought i better put this one on also.

A LITTLE GUN HISTORY

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new laws to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australiataxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent
(yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteedthat their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.
You won’t see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens. Take note my fellow Americans, before it’s too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson. With guns, we are ‘citizens’. Without them, we are ‘subjects’.

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED! If you value your freedom, please spread this anti-gun control message to all of your friends.
