White world around these parts.

This is an old picture, but this is what it looks like around here, right now. Got up to 10 above today, so it never got quite as bad as they said it was going to. Kind of evens out things for all the times they said it was going to be nice and it wasn’t! I spoiled the cows and gave them more hay today. I don’t suppose when it warms back up they are going to want to go back to grazing. Oh well, I guess that’s why I’ve got hay for them. 🙂

Still wintery.

But not as bad as they had predicted. 6 above this am. It was only supposed to get up to minus 2 for a high today. That’s okay, I don’t mind if they are wrong. Cindy took the day off so we can go down and ley Carl take a photo. Hope lots of others who were in the Rancher book do the same, for him. He drove quite a ways just to come out and do this.

Sure wished he;d have picked a better time, weather wise, tho’! 🙂

Touch of fall in the air!

If it keeps up like this I am going to have to trade my straw hat in for a felt one!

Went to Rapid yesterday afternoon. Windy, blowing snow around out here and got to Sturgis and it was warmer and of course less wind. Picked up Cindy and we went to Rapid and did a few things then went to the Dahl for the Ranchers book display opening. Had a nice crowd show up and then aftewards, Carl and us and Chance, Hope and Gus went out with a two couples who are friends of Carl’s and had some supper and a good visit. Guess we are going back on Sunday for portraits. Wish the weather was better for Carl and I hope he gets lots of people to show up for the portraits. That Gus is a crack up! He’d set there and pound on the table with both hands and he was gettin’ all the waitress to stop and talk to him. He’s a charmer! Must have got that from his Dad!

Stilll Brrrr!

I guess winter is finally decided to come visit. Cold and some wind today and tomorrow. Fun, fun! Sure glad I got some hay to feed the critters along with their other feed! Have to go to Rapid to do the Rancher book thing this evening. Looks like somebody could have set this up at a better time! 😉

Okay, I am still working on it!

I’ve worked on this site off and on today. I’ve gotten some new pictures up. I did take off time to go to town and do some business and get some pellets for the stove.  Now I am going to go with a neighbor to a meeting. We are eating out at the local village cafe. Oh my yes, we are real up town, in these part. Got street signs and everything. As much gum as I bought today, I think Copenhagen might have been cheaper and I know my jaws didn’t hurt as much!  When I fueled up Teddy before leaving town, it cost me $75!  Hmmm wonder what them guys with 460’s are having to pay to fuel up! 😉

Rancher, heads up!

Rancher: Photographs of the American West, a collection of striking photographs by Carl Corey, will be on display at the Dahl Arts Center, in Rapid City, South Dakota, January 18 through February 22, 2008. The exhibit opens with a public reception for the artist and poetry reading by Red Owl, South Dakota area rancher, Robert Dennis, on January 18, 2008 5-7 pm. The photographs in the book are accompanied by Robert Dennis‘ poetry, and it has an introduction by respected writer, editor, poet, and ranchwoman Linda Hasselstrom.

I took this off the Cowboy Poetry .com website. Carl is wanting to take pictures of all the people in the book, plus any other ranchers and their families who will set for a minute. In return for getting your picture taken, Carl will give those photographed a nice portrait of themselves.

A good lesson.

I tried to post this earlier today. I thought i had lost it. Now it’s back. if this posts this time anyway!

I  re-learned a good lesson today.

Get your priorities right and worry about the right things and not the dumb things.

I was crabbing around today because of a slight money problem. It was just ruining my day. Then we came up missing a little boy who ain’t quit 3 years old. Him and the dogs, thank the Lord. Found them north of here on the rocky hill, after his mom hollered for him and we’d looked lots of other places. They were all fine, just off on an adventure he didn’t tell anybody he was going on.

We were pretty worried until we found him tho’!

When you think you got a problem, remember, it probably could be a lot worse.
