Went and helped a neighbor move a few first calf heifer pairs. Sure was a nice day. 60’s, no wind, just a real lite breeze and partly cloudy.
Whoooopppeeee!
Chance and I ran into to town this afternoon. And because of that, I got to say something I have always wanted to say.
We stopped to get gas and there was a young lady there, walking her pet pot bellied pig. As I walked by her I got to say, “Nice pig, ma’am.”
That was soo freeking cool!
Scared

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA
Dear President Obama:
You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.
You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.
You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.
You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.
You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.
You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don’t understand it at its core..
You scare me because you lack humility and ‘class’, always blaming others.
You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail.
You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the ‘blame America’ crowd and deliver this message abroad.
You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector.
You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.
You scare me because you prefer ‘wind mills’ to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.
You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world.
You scare me because you have begun to use ‘extortion’ tactics against certain banks and corporations.
You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals.
You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.
You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.
You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do.
You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O’Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.
You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.
Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

Cloudy and cool
Rain gauge shows an inch and ten hundreds. When the sun comes out and warms things up, this ol’ grass ought to really go to town. The cool season grasses have really been growing, but the warm season ones haven’t had much chance to show their stuff yet. Oh well, it will come in time.
Tate and Kass came and took Gabe home with them, so I suppose I can get more done now, but it won’t be as much fun.
More rain
50 hundreds when we went out and fed the calf this morning.
Look at my new colt guy!
Gabe rode Beaver when we went out and looked at cattle this morning, so we saddled up Crackerjack in the afternoon and he put the first “ride” on him. He got along fine.
6/5/09
We ended up with .60 hundreds of rain. If we’d get that much every week, we sure would have a good year. Wish I could send some to all those who need it.
Gabe is staying with us for a fgew days while his Mom is off going to a graduation of a nephew, so we saddled up Beaver for Gabe last evening and give him some practice. Gabe and I had went to Rapid for a funeral and to get a new window put in the back of my pickup. Chance and I were driving back from a branding a week or two ago when a rock flew up and broke the back window out. We taped plastic over it, but it was noisy and you couldn’t see out. Nice to have it fixed.
While in Rapid, I got Gabe a pair of boots. I hate kids riding in tie on shoes as I always worry about them hanging up and getting drug from a horse. Most folks forget that boot like I wear were made to realease you if you do get hung to a horse. It’s one of my greatest fears.
I had a man get in touch with me who is a distant relative of Manuel Coy, an old Spaniard who came to this country in the trail drive days. I’d written a poem about him and this person had found it. Very interesting to learn more about Manuel. I need to write a new one now and update it!
There was supposed to be one last branding tomorrow but the guy postponed it as there is a good chance of rain the next couple days. We will just do them later, in another week or so.
Rain
Getting a nice rain as I type this. A buddy came up Sunday evening and we sorted and moved yearling’s on Monday, then loaded up and went to another friends about 50 miles from here. Set up his tepee and unrolled our bedrolls and spent the night and got up, gathered and branded a bunch of calves on Tuesday. Headed and heeled all of them. A fun and efficient way to work calves, especially if they are big. Here’s a few pictures.
14th
Branding, that is. Started in pretty good season but it was 7:30 when we got done. Just a lot of fiddling around here and there. One of them days.
Got a small one tomorrow.
Another branding
Another good one. When we got home Cindy wanted to go up and look at the mares as she said we had another foal. So we did and Suzy had a colt. So two fillies and a colt. I guess I can live with that. Too bad I didn’t want all these future broodmares!
Heres Suzy’s new bay colt.

And then Peaches filly that was born a few days ago.

12th branding
Counting ours, which I shouldn’t.
We were supposed to brand yesterday down in the breaks but we got a rain Saturday night so they pushed it back to Friday, if we can find enough help. They always ask me to find the crew and I am still short a couple of people. Too many different things going on.
One of my yearling guys brought bulls for his heifers yesterday. I fixed fence and roe and pushed some heifers out of a pasture where they didn’t need to be yet. Rode Pilgrim for the first time since I took him to Benny’s. He did well, tho’ he wants to jig jog. I worked on making him walk, all the way home.
Tyler got official word yesterday that he will be Ordained on June 26. Anyone who is interested and would like to attend one of several different festivities, just drop me a line or give me a call.
