CASH FOR CLUNKER RESULTS:

A vehicle at 15 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 800 gallons a year of gasoline.
A vehicle at 25 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 480 gallons a year.
So, the average clunker transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year, per vehicle.

They claim 700,000 vehicles – so that’s 224 million gallons / year.
That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.
5 million barrels of oil is about ¼ of one day’s US consumption.
And, 5 million barrels of oil costs about $350 million dollars at $75/bbl.

So, we all contributed to spending $3 billion to save $350 million.
How good a deal was that?

But they’ll probably do a better job with health care.

Staying pretty warm the last couple days. I worked with some young horses in the late afternoon and sure got my exercise.

We had the grandsons again so when I drove down south to tie off a windmill head yesterday morning while it was calm, Gramma and the boys went along. and the dogs. Man, that little Suzuki is just not big enough for all to be comfortable! Gus sat on my lap until we got to the windmill and then I drove around setting gates. Every time I got out, he wanted to get out. He was worse than a pup! LOL

Fr Tyler came out in time to eat lunch with us. He said Mass yesterday evening here at the house and that is always cool. Gramma sent a care package home with him of jellies and such.

I’m not sure what today’s work will be yet. But I will think of something! Having to put ointment in Crackerjacks eye every time I turn around seems to take up quite a bit of my time. I think I will attempt to make a small cup that can be placed over the eye, full of ointment, and tied on to hold it in place.

I took pictures of the colts so I could fill out their registration papers and get them sent off. Heres some to look at.

Loaded up three steers and one yearling colt and headed for town. Couldn’t find anything in Crackerjacks eye, so he just injured it somehow. Vet didn’t think it had happened over a couple days ago. I am supposed to put stuff in his eye at least four times a day and every two hours would be better.

Took the steers back to the owner. He has lots more that they will fit on with and he’s shipping them the end of the month. Glad my numbers came out right for him and the last bunch. Now, if I can just find the lost little bull!

Got up to 90 or so here today and quite a stiff breeze. Got a tire put on the trailer, discovered one rim was no good so got a “new to me” rim and had the old tire put on it for a spare.

We had Gus and Sam last night and Gramma had them all day. Gus had a rough night and got us up in the night and we sat up and watched a movie until he went back to sleep. So Hope came tonight and stuck around. Chance got a job working on some road construction so he gets gone early and comes home late. He stopped in to see the boys and helped put them to bed. Cindy will watch them tomorrow also. This new job of Chances will only last about a month and then back to a “normal” schedule.

Cindy and Hope took the boys out and saddled Patches and let them ride her around and around. I put more stuff in Crackerjacks eye and then put the boys on and held them, one at a time. Crackerjack didn’t seem to mind too much. He might make a kid horse yet! 😉

Got up and went to Mass this morning. Then when I got home I ran the horses in and saddled up Mijo. Chance came and saddled his horse and then the neighbors showed up and we gathered their yearlings. Sent a load and left the others in the corral until they came back for the next load. Evidently they didn’t like it in the corral as they knocked the gate open and went back out into the little trap we call the hog pasture. When the trcuk came back, Chance and I eased these squirrley girls back in and we got them loaded. Just one more bunch left here and the open ones are gone off them. They will go middle to end of next month, probably.

Crackerjack has a bad eye so tomorrow I will run him in to the vet and return the 3 yearling’s I thought were missing from the steer bunch. Turns out they belong to the guys daughter and he didn’t mention they were branded different! Oh well, at least my count comes out right now!

Rained last night. Pretty cool out there this morning. Might be time to load some pellets in the wood stove. Or bake some bread or some such. Defiantly coat wearing weather!

We are shipping some yearling’s tomorrow and were going to vaccinate the calves with their fall shots, but now I wonder if it might be kind of muddy to do it. We were going to head and heel them, but it ain’t a good idea in the mud. Maybe just put it off until next Sunday.

Didn’t do too much today. Rode Mijo south and moved some cattle and set some gates.

Thought and read about the happening on 9/11/01. Doesn’t seem all that long ago. Prayed for those who lost members of their families in the carnage. And for those who caused it and those who would still do the same today. So sad.

Going over the a neighbors in a bit. We will trailer over to his summer pasture about 20 miles from here, gather a little over 5000 acres and sort the cows from the calves, pouring the cows and giving the calves their fall shots.

I am taking Pilgrim as he is ready for a bigger ride and a little longer day. MIghrt have some pictures to post tonight or tomorrow.

Sure nice having a half moon shining down from straight over head to see to catch my horse by!  🙂

Paid bills this morning.

I don’t know why, but I hate it. Even tho’ I have the money to pay them, I just hate the fact of having to set down and write those checks out and watch the amount in my checking account dwindle! If I was rich in money (cuz I am rich in so many other things) I would hire someone to take care of it for me. And it is obscene how much money passes thru’ my hands each month, with what seems like so little to show for it.

Hooked up my team this afternoon and went up west and drug some logs out of the creek for Chance. He was up there cutting wood so he helped me hook and unhook on some. Finally had a peice break off the chariot so came home. Wind was blowing so I wore my little Fedora. Looks silly but stays on in the wind.

Roz has filled out this summer. I had to let her harness out. They were real good and did a great job. Looking forward to using them more this fall and winter. Wish now I had a horse mower fixed up to pull with them.

We’ve been laboring!

I went and worked on my spetic system this moring, ran the garbage out and when Hope and Chance and the boys came up, Chance and I worked on the roof, trying to seal off the leaks. Hopefully we have them.

After dinner Cindy and Hope went and picked wild grapes and plums and they are working on them now. Chance and I rode Beav and Mijo up the creek where Chance had cut logs and traded off hooking our ropes on and having the horses drag them up out of the bottom of the creek so they will be handier for him to cut up into firewood. Now I don’t know what I am going to do. Maybe go take a nap or help Cindy with her jelly project.

Had a great time at Devil’s Tower yesterday. Great crowd and maybe the best show ever! Thanks to Eizibeth Ebert, Daron Little, Marty Blocker and a young lady named Brandi and Chance.

Met a great couple who I chat with on the internet too. Dallas and Sheila. Wonderful people. Wish we lived closer and could neighbor with them!
