A Muslim was sitting next to Paddy on a plane.

Paddy ordered a whisky.

The stewardess asked the Muslim if he’d like a drink.

He replied in disgust “I’d rather be raped by a dozen whores than let liquor touch my lips!”

Paddy handed his drink back and said

“Me too, I didn’t know we had a choice!”

Paddy calls Easyjet to book a flight.

The operator asks “How many people are flying with you?”

Paddy replies “I don’t know! It’s your f***ing plane!”

Paddy and Murphy are working on a building site.
Paddy says to Murphy “I’m gonna have the day off,
I’m gonna pretend I’m mad!”
He climbs up the rafters, hangs upside down and shouts

“I’M A LIGHTBULB! I’M A LIGHTBULB!”

Murphy watches in amazement!

The Foreman shouts “Paddy you’re mad, go home”

So he leaves the site.

Murphy starts packing his kit up to leave as well.

“Where the hell are you going?” asks the Foreman.

“I can’t work in the friggin’ dark!” says Murphy.

Two Irish couples decided to swap partners for the night.

After 3 hours of amazing sex, Paddy says “I wonder how the girls are getting on”.

Paddy takes his new wife to bed on their wedding night.
She undresses, lies on the bed spread-eagled and says
“You know what I want, don’t you?”

“Yeah,” says Paddy. “The whole feckin’ bed by the looks of it!”

A good one….

Got this in an email and it’s too good to not pass on.

A man and his wife were awakened at 3:00 am by a loud
pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken
stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is asking for a push.
“Not a chance,” says the husband, “it is 3:00 in the
morning!”

He slams the door and returns to bed.

“Who was that?” asked his wife.
“Just some drunk guy asking for a push,” he answers.

“Did you help him?” she asks.
“No, I did not, it is 3:00 in the morning and it is pouring
rain out there!”

“Well, you have a short memory,” says his wife. “Can’t you
remember about three months ago when we broke down, and those two guys
helped us?
I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of
yourself! God loves drunk people too.”

The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into
the pounding rain. He calls out into the dark, “Hello, are you still
there?”
“Yes,” comes back the answer.

“Do you still need a push?” calls out the husband.
“Yes, please!” comes the reply from the dark.

“Where are you?” asks the husband.
“Over here on the swing set,” replied the drunk.

It’s started……

Got a calf on Saturday, two yesterday and looks like a new one out there today. all out of the older black cows Chance bought. When I’ve went to notch the calves ears, the mama’s have all been very good mama’s! Seems they don’t approve. Got all huffy and every thing! Oh well, I have dealt with crabby females all my life! LOL

Bob is learning that mama cows can be protective. Hard to remember to keep him locked up when I go to feed. He tried to run up and nip Roz in the nose yesterday as I was driving along, taking a bale out to the cows. I got my little stock whip down and warned him  off with it. Hopefully he will quit. He seems smart about so many things for his age, I sure don’t want him thinking it is alright to bite at horses. One good kick and it will be poochy pie, as Gary McMahan sings in his song.

Here’s a link to a story or two by the man who was here from the paper on Saturday.  http://www.rapidcityjournal.com/app/blogs/outdoors/

Visitors

I had some guys come out and visit this morning. One is a writer for a local paper, one is a lawyer, one is a lobbyist. What a diverse group! Politics were the discussion of the day. Other than me fielding questions about this place and how we do things here. Pictures were taken and will probably appear on here in the future. The trap have been getting pretty thick around here so we shot a bunch. Well….they shot a bunch. I am a dang poor shot. But I can blow shells up with the best of them. All in all, a pleasant way to spend the morning and part of the afternoon. Hope they all come back soon!

The food chain

Recently there was a lady who was jogging in Alaska, who was found dead and partially eaten by wolves, or at least they are the prime suspect in the eating and her dying. There is some talk that the wolves may have been rabid. Supposedly there has never been a case of “healthy’ wolves attacking a human, in the lower 48 states.

Not so in Russia. There is numerous evidence that in Russia people are, or have been in the past, prey for wolves. Maybe Russians have a different idea of “healthy” wolves.

I put the word healthy with apostrophes for the same reason you could say that no “sane” person ever killed another person, with out being provoked, as many would argue that anyone who would murder their fellow man would not be “sane”. Good argument, but I doubt it makes the victim feel any better!

The enviro tree hugging wacko hippies who seem to be in charge of too many things of late in the west, got wolves reintroduced into the Yellowstone Park area some years back. There has been a lot of discussion, fighting and justified anger because of this ever since. There was little if any accommodations made to people living in that area as to what or how they would be reimbursed for loss of private property caused by the wolves. There was lofty talk of how the wolves would bring the balance of nature back, in that area. From what I’ve read since, those who don’t actually live around or have any worries of loss, or who have not lost any private property to or from the wolves are plumb happy with the deal. Especially the Canadians who we bought the wolves from at about $10, 000 per wolf. Seems they had an excess and were more than happy to sell a few. Saved them from having to shoot them, themselves. You see, in Canada, they have plenty of wolves. And evidently not many rifles. And the ones they do have are kept for shooting wildlife. I guess the RCMP does such a fine job of policing up there, no one has to worry about defending themselves from ruffians, thugs or thieves, two or four legged.

My question is this…..why did we reintroduce wolves into an area that they probably could have come back to on their own, if left to their own devices? Why didn’t we reintroduce the wolves into their old home territory? Seems like if we are going to reintroduce a species of animals back to their former ranges, we should start by putting them back where they first became extinct from. Like New York. Well, at least Central Park. I am sure in colonials times there would have been wolves there. So why not put some back? Surely the good people of New York City wouldn’t mind. After all they are a peaceful and peace loving bunch who just love the outdoors and wildlife, or else they would have torn up Central Park and put buildings there, wouldn’t they? I hear the cost of a big enough chunk of land to put up a building in that neighborhood is tremendous! So I am sure they wouldn’t mind. Plus they could put some deer there for the wolves to eat, tho’ the way whitetails seem to be taking over the country, I bet they already have some there. And perhaps some Elk. Get the Rocky Mountain Elk society involved. We have rancheres raising Elk and I bet they’d be happy to make the government a deal on some. Shoot, we could get ol’ Ted “Sure Glad I got Rid Of Commie Loving Jane” Turner to donate some buffalo while we are at it. I hear he has lots of money and buffalo. And power.

But back to the point I was trying to make when I started this lengthy tirade. Why do the people who don’t live in an area, get to have so much say about what goes on in an area? Do we in South Dakota have more power than those people in say…oh I don’t know…maybe Washington DC? Do we have more power than the people who live there? ‘Cuz if we do, I have some changes I’d like to see happen in that fair city! And who is allowed to live and work there. Or maybe just a few of the jobs in….. oh, I don’t know……. maybe the White House? Or Congress?

Seems to me like if something is going to effect the local people the most, they should get the most say in it.

So those who want wolves in their back yard, should be allowed to do so. If they and all their neighbors are in agreement. Or at least a majority of them. Isn’t that how this country was supposed to work? Democracy? Republic?

By the way, if we see any large, furry, dog looking creatures around here, we are allowed to shoot them, outside city limits I suppose. They are considered large coyotes. And we still have rules that allow us to protect ourselves and our property against those sorts of thing. To bad the lady jogger in Alaska didn’t have a gun and the wherewithal to use it. We as humans are, after all, at the top of the food chain, when we have the proper tools with us and the capacity to use them. If we don’t, we are about fifth or sixth down the list I hear, depending on where you are at, at the moment and who is knocking on your door, so to speak.

Perhaps we need to remember that we have tools to fix problems in other places like DC also, if we just use them……….

So get and practice using the finest tools you can. Who wants to end up as wolf scat, anyway?

Town

I took Shadow with me to Del’s to push the sheep up the chute, yesterday. First time he’s been around them. Once he found out it was okay to get a hold of one he did pretty good. Had a little trouble getting him directed. By the time we were done he was working pretty good, tho’ he was  no longer biting. And with these, they needed a well placed nip once in awhile. Sure was nice out.

Turned the team out and kept up Beaver yesterday when I got done feeding. Only fed one bale as the cows are not cleaning up all their hay. Rode Beav out to make sure there were none out of sight, calving and there is a quite a bit of old grass getting uncovered by the melting snow. Should go saddle him up and ride out and check cows this morning before I take off for my dentist appointment. Then gather the horses and keep up a fresh one.Woody perhaps. He’s old and smart and thinks he’s the boss. 😉

I fed a bale with the tractor yesterday evening when I got back from the shearing, for today.

Supposed to get a little rain and snow in today or tomorrow. Doesn’t look like too much tho. But this time of the year, I never trust a weather forecast. Seems like when we are only supposed to get a little is when we’ve had some of our biggest storms.

Warm

Got up in the 40’s yesterday and supposed to get to almost 60 this afternoon. That will help get rid of the snow and even maybe dry up a little mud in places. Going over and help a neighbor who is shearing his sheep this afternoon.

Melting!

Got pretty warm today. Maybe 40’s. Lots of snow and ice turning to water and mud. Chance brought the boys up and left them with Gramma, so after chores were done we went to Punkin Center for lunch and got some slat and mineral for the cattle. I moved snow, hauled a few bales and hooked a hose up and hosed down ice in the corral to make it melt and run off. Much better now. Supposed to be nice tomorrow also and then turn to snow again. Oh well, the 21 is the equinox and we always seem to get some weather around it. It’s why my Dad never wanted to calve until after the 21 st. No calves here, yet.
