Pearl Harbor day. The day that sent us into WWII. A sad day in history. The 911 of that generation.
I saw a WWII veteran the other day. He was in on the invasion of Omaha beach. Ended up in a German prisoner of war camp. Got down to 83 pounds before they were liberated. Very interesting man to visit with. There ain’t too many left of that era. If you run across one, please stop and visit with them. Soon they will all be gone and none left to thank.
We were at Spearfish at a mutuals friends art show and Bob lives at Bison, SD. Pretty fair drive between them. I asked Bob if he was spending the night at Spearfish. He said he wasn’t, he was going to drive back to Bison that night. Told me he had a good pickup with brand new tires on it. I told him it sure probably wasn’t too big of a deal, as long as the weather stayed good. It was about 10 degree’s that evenng, but no snow. He told me he liked to drive and didn’t care if the weather was good or not! He had just driven over to Upton the other day for Thanksgiving!
What a guy!
Oh, he was born in 1918. Makes you reconsider what “old” is.
I agree with you and now people are living so much longer that I think age is in the eye of the beholder!
There are not many WWII Vets left..we are losing more and more of them everyday. Pearl Harbor was 68 years ago..not many people blog about it at all anymore..so I was glad to see your post and that someone did remember it.:(
