Got them

Had some neighbors come  help Chance and I today. We gathered the steer bunch and the spayed heifer bunch (seeing as they had gotten a gate down and mixed together) and brought them in to the corral and sorted them. Put the heifers back down south and left the steers here on the north side so we can ship them on Monday. We may or may not be short 3 head, depending on if I got a good count or not. I think I miscounted, but we rode colts down south into the neighbors pasture to look for missing steers. Nope, none there. I am leaving for Iowa for a gig tomorow so Chance can look for them. If we are short on Monday, I will just have to get them to the owner when we find them. He has 2500 head of them scattered around the country, so they would fit on with some of his others.

Don’t you guys do anything foolish while I am gone for a couple days.

I heard the cicada’s singing this evening and saw some marigold or ragweed or whatever that yellow plant is, and it is blooming, so according to the old timers, we are 6 weeks from a frost.

Oh, heres the corrals we built yesterday and the new gate we got hung on there. Sure wore this old fat man out! I mentioned to Chance that he could tear the old one on the inside down, when he wasn’t busy looking for lost yearling’s or riding colts or whatever. You suppose they will be tore down when I get back????? LOL

  1. I hadn’t heard that cicada singing means frost in 6 weeks. I think down here it must mean that the cicadas are thrilled that the chances of a frost in 6 weeks is about 0.

  2. Oh, man, I sure hope the cicadas are wrong! Ours were screaming it up like mad yesterday and we don’t need frost for a good long while yet.
I am still trying to find you on facebook, but there are around five hundred guys that share your name….alas.

  3. Well 3 collie, just email me your name and I will look you up. rdennis@gwtc.net

And Ruth, that was in this country. Down there? Who knows!

I notice they always start about this time of year and we usually get a frost around the first of October. 🙂
