Here we go

Rolling right along into the new year. Damn, now I have to learn to write 2009 on my checks!

We had a group over yesterday afternoon and we shot trap. It was fun until my shoulder and cheek got to hurting. I have got to learn to hold my shotgun differently, I guess. That or go trade it in for a 20 gauge.

Yeah I know, wussy, wussy, but it got to where I was flinching. Why I like my 223 so much. I can just throw it up and shoot and never feel anything but satisfaction on a good shot.

Later on towards eveni9ng, most of the trap shooters left and a group of young people showed up. We jammed and when our fingers got sore, they played the card game, Spoons. Only they used butter knives. Kind of wild and I always wonder when someone is going to get a leg broken or an arm!

Me and Gramma went to bed!

Welcome damonrogers.wordpress.com, to the world of blogging.

Today is Kevin’s and my anniversary. 32 years. I still remember the first time I met G’pa and G’ma. G’pa asked me what my heritage was. I told him Swedish. He shook his head and told Kevin, “Kevvie, you’re gonna marry someone from the wrong side of the fjord!”

  3. If you have the screw-in type chokes in you barrel, may I suggest a vented one. I have one in my 870 and my Model 11. They work. Also, try one of those anti vibration/shock recoil pads, they’re good too. A slightly inexpensive fix that will let you shoot more comfortably and longer. May just get rid of the “flinchez” too.

  4. Dennis- Aguila (Centurion Ordinance) makes some low-power 12 gauge shotshells that are a bit easier on the shoulder. It sounds like you have a high cheekbone, and your cheek weld is low and tight. Try putting a strap-on or glue on cheekpiece, or maybe even slide a couple pairs of socks on over the buttstock to pad your cheek some. Might even need to cut the stock down some, if the cheek rise is too high. is this a pump?

  5. Happy anniversary Ruth and Kev! Ours is the end of the month. 30 long hard years! 😉

    Thank you Shirley! 🙂

    Thanks for the info James.

No Og, side by side double barrel. While I grip it, I pull it extra tight and push my cheek too hard into the stock, to compensate for the kick, which really isn’t bad. I have fought tendonitis in my shoulders for years and literally ached and ached to where I couldn’t sleep at night, until a wise man showed me how to relive the pain, so I am unconsiously always grabbing my guns and pulling them into my shoulders much harder than I need to. I do the same thing when playing guitar and push on the string much harder than I need to with my fingers, as I learned on a cheap hard to play guitar, so my fingertips get very sore if I don’t play often and keep the callous built up.
I guess I am just too old to learn new tricks or maybe just don’t do it often enough. I do miss shooting my old 20 gauge tho’.

  6. Thanks Og. Looks like it would sure help. I looked at a couple 20 gauges yesterday. Mossbergs. My son told me not to buy any. We’d get a used one of a different manufacturer, cheaper and have a better gun. Damned if I know. I thought they only made Winchesters! 🙂
